This part of IEC 60079 is applicable to equipment protected by enclosure and surface
temperature limitation for use in explosive dust atmospheres. It specifies requirements for
design, construction and testing of Ex Equipment and Ex Components.
This document supplements and modifies the general requirements of IEC 60079-0. Where a
requirement of this document conflicts with a requirement of IEC 60079-0, the requirement of
this document takes precedence.
This document does not apply to dusts of explosives, which do not require atmospheric oxygen
for combustion, or to pyrophoric substances.
This document does not apply to Ex Equipment or Ex Components intended for use in
underground parts of mines as well as those parts of surface installations of such mines
endangered by firedamp and/or combustible dust.
This document does not take account of any hazard due to an emission of flammable or toxic
gas from the dust.
This document does not contain requirements for Ex Equipment used in areas where both
combustible dust and explosive gas atmospheres can occur, whether simultaneously or
separately. Requirements for explosive gas atmospheres can be found in other parts of the
IEC 60079 series. Guidance on Ex Equipment to be used where combustible dust and explosive
gas atmospheres occur simultaneously ("hybrid mixtures") can be found in IEC 60079-14.
Where the Ex Equipment has to meet other environmental conditions, for example, protection
against ingress of water and resistance to corrosion, additional measures which do not
adversely affect the integrity of the enclosure can be necessary.

IEC TS 61496-5:2023 provides particular requirements for the design, construction and testing of non-contact electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) designed specifically to provide whole-body detection of a person or persons as part of a safety-related system, employing radar protective devices (RPDs) responsive to diffuse reflection of radar signals for the sensing function using frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) technique. Special attention is directed to features which ensure that an appropriate safety-related performance is achieved. An ESPE can include optional safety-related functions, the requirements for which are given in Annex A of IEC 61496-1:2020 and Annex A of this document.
The requirements given in this document are related to the detection of adult persons being present in an industrial manufacturing environment.
This document does not specify the dimensions or configurations of the detection zone and its disposition in relation to hazardous parts for any particular application, nor what constitutes a hazardous state of any machine. It is restricted to the functioning of the ESPE and how it interfaces with the machine.
This document does not consider the aspects of a moving RPD application. Additional consideration can be necessary, if the RPD supplier specifies the RPD for use on moving application.
Additional requirements and tests can apply if setup of the RPD differs from Figure 2 and Figure 4.
Where this document does not contain all necessary provisions, IEC TS 62998-1 is used.
For those aspects not considered in this document it is also possible to additionally use provisions from IEC TS 62998-1.
Excluded from this document are RPDs that employ electromagnetic radiation outside the range 9 GHz to 81 GHz (identified as subset of band 10 and band 11 in accordance with ITU Radio Regulations). For sensing devices that employ electromagnetic radiation outside this range, this document can be used as a guide. National regulations can limit the available frequencies.
This document can be relevant to applications other than those for the protection of persons, for example for the protection of machinery or products from mechanical damage. In those applications, different requirements can be appropriate, for example when the materials to be recognized by the sensing function have different properties from those of persons.
This document does not deal with requirements for ESPE functions not related to the protection of persons (e.g. using sensing unit data for navigation).
While a data interface can be used to control optional safety-related ESPE functions (Annex A), this document does not provide specific requirements. Requirements for these safety-related functions can be determined by consulting other standards (for example, IEC 61508, IEC 62046, IEC 62061, and ISO 13849-1).
This document does not deal with EMC emission requirements.

This document is applicable to eye, face and head protectors used in work where there is a risk of exposure to an electric arc hazard. Such protectors consist of one or several devices (e.g. hood, goggles, balaclavas, face shields, helmets, etc.), which might need to be combined together in order to give protection to eye, face and head for the intended use. This document covers the performance requirements for protectors and single protective devices considering thermal, optical and mechanical hazards of an electric arc. Because of the limitations of test apparatus at very high energy arcs, no arc rating above 4 100 kJ/m2 (100 cal/cm2) can be assigned to protectors. This document does not cover protection against electric shock, noise, the consequences of physical and mental shock and the toxic influences caused by an electric arc. This document does not cover protectors for work intentionally using an electric arc, e.g. arc welding, plasma torch. This document does not cover face-screens for the reduction of an electric field inside conductive clothing in accordance with IEC 60895. Any other claims of the manufacturer for protection against other hazards to eye or face (e.g. welding radiation, hazards occurring during fire-fighting) are outside the scope of the document. Products designed and manufactured in accordance with this document contribute to the safety of the users provided they are used by skilled persons, in accordance with safe methods of work and the instructions for use.

IEC 60079-11:2023 specifies the construction and testing of intrinsically safe apparatus intended for use in explosive atmospheres, and for associated apparatus which is intended for connection to intrinsically safe circuits which enter such atmospheres.
This Type of Protection is applicable to electrical equipment in which the electrical circuits themselves are incapable of causing ignition of a surrounding explosive atmosphere. This includes electrical equipment which contains circuits that are intrinsically safe only under certain conditions, for example under battery supply with mains supply removed.
This document is also applicable to electrical equipment or parts of electrical equipment located outside the explosive atmosphere or protected by another Type of Protection listed in IEC 60079 0, where the intrinsic safety of the electrical circuits in the explosive atmosphere may depend upon the design and construction of such electrical equipment or parts of such electrical equipment. The electrical circuits exposed to the explosive atmosphere are assessed for use in such atmospheres by applying this document.
This document applies to sensors connected to intrinsically safe circuits but does not apply to the protection of catalytic elements for Group IIC or Group IIB + H2.
This document does not apply to Ex Equipment cable glands.
The requirements for intrinsically safe systems are provided in IEC 60079-25.
This document supplements and modifies the general requirements of IEC 60079-0, except as indicated in Table 1. Where a requirement of this document conflicts with a requirement of IEC 60079-0, the requirement of this document takes precedence.
Unless otherwise stated, the requirements in this document are applicable to both intrinsically safe apparatus and associated apparatus, and the generic term "apparatus" is used throughout the standard.
As this document applies only to electrical equipment, the term "equipment" used in the standard always means "electrical equipment".
This document applies to apparatus for use under the atmospheric conditions of IEC 60079 0 with additional requirements for use at extended atmospheric pressures in the range from 60 kPa (0,6 bar), up to 110 kPa (1,1 bar).
This seventh edition cancels and replaces the sixth edition published in 2011. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
The identification and significance of the changes between IEC 60079-11, Edition 7 (2022) and IEC 60079-11, Edition 6 (2011 + Corrigendum 1 (2012)) can be found in the table of changes in the foreword of the publication.

IEC TS 61496-4-3:2022 is available as IEC TS 61496-4-3:2022 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC TS 61496-4-3:2022 specifies requirements for the design, construction and testing of non-contact electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) designed specifically to detect persons or parts of persons as part of a safety-related system, employing vision-based protective devices (VBPDs) using stereo vision techniques (VBPDST) for the sensing function. Special attention is directed to features which ensure that an appropriate safety-related performance is achieved. An ESPE can include optional safety-related functions, the requirements for which are given in Annex A of IEC 61496-1:2020 and this document. Where this document does not contain all necessary provisions, IEC TS 62998-1 applies. It is also possible, for those aspects not considered in this document, to use provisions from IEC TS 62998-1 additionally. This document does not specify the dimensions or configurations of the detection zone and its disposition in relation to hazardous parts for any particular application, nor what constitutes a hazardous state of any machine. It is restricted to the functioning of the ESPE and how it interfaces with the machine. The detection principle is based on the evaluation of images from different viewing points (stereoscopic view) for the determination of distance information. This distance information is used to determine the position of an object(s).
– This document is limited to vision based ESPEs with fixed distances (stereo base) and fixed directions of the optical axes using a fixed focal length.
– It is limited to vision based ESPEs that do not require human intervention for detection.
– It is limited to vision based ESPEs that detect objects entering into or being present in a detection zone(s).
– It is limited to VBPDSTs employing radiation at wavelengths within the range 400 nm to 1 500 nm.
– This document does not address those aspects required for complex classification or differentiation of the object detected.

IEC TS 61496-4-2:2022 is available as IEC TS 61496-4-2:2022 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC TS 61496-4-2:2022 specifies requirements for the design, construction and testing of non-contact electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) designed specifically to detect persons as part of a safety-related system, employing vision-based protective devices (VBPDs) using reference pattern techniques (VBPDPP) for the sensing function. Special attention is directed to features which ensure that an appropriate safety-related performance is achieved. An ESPE can include optional safety-related functions, the requirements for which are given in Annex A of IEC 61496-1:2020 and this document. Where this document does not contain all necessary provisions, then IEC TS 62998-1 applies. A VBPDPP is defined as consisting of a single image-sensing device viewing on a passive reference pattern as the background and where the detection principle is based on blocking or partially preventing the view of the pattern. Information about the thickness, shape, surface characteristics or location of the object is not required for detection. For multi-image sensing devices, additional techniques, requirements and test procedures can be necessary.
- This document is limited to automatic vision-based ESPEs that do not require human intervention for detection.
- It is limited to automatic vision-based ESPEs that detect objects entering into, or are present in, a detection zone(s).
- It is limited to ESPEs using active illumination technique.
- Excluded from this technical specification are VBPDPPs employing radiation at wavelengths outside the range 400 nm to 1 500 nm.
- This document does not address those aspects required for complex classification or differentiation of the object detected.
This document is relevant for VBPDPPs having a stated detection capability up to 200 mm. This document does not deal with EMC emission requirements.

IEC 61482-1-1:2019 specifies test method procedures to determine the arc rating of flame resistant clothing materials and garments or assemblies of garments intended for use in clothing for workers if there is an electric arc hazard. An open arc under controlled laboratory conditions is used to determine the values of ELIM, ATPV or EBT of materials, garments or assemblies of garments. NOTE 1 The user can, if he desires, classify the arc protective performance into arc rating protection levels based on ELIM, ATPV and/or EBT values which correspond best to the different hazard and risks levels that can result from the user’s risk analysis. NOTE 2 This document is not dedicated to classifying the arc protective performance of the material and clothing into arc protection classes. Procedures determining these arc protection classes APC1 and APC2 are specified in IEC 61482 1-2, which uses a constrained arc for testing.  NOTE 3 This test method is not intended and not appropriate to evaluate whether materials or garments are flame resistant or not, as this is covered in IEC 61482-2. Other effects than the thermal effects of an electric arc like noise, light emissions, pressure rise, hot oil, electric shock, the consequences of physical and mental shock or toxic influences are not covered by this document. Protective clothing for work intentionally using an electric arc, e.g. arc welding, plasma torch, is not covered by this document. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - addition of the Incident energy limit (ELIM) as a further arc rating performance property value; - replacement of char length requirement in the scope by indication that Procedure A is applicable for testing of materials meeting the limited flame spread requirements of IEC 61482-2; - clarification of the definition and the meaning of the Stoll curve; - modification of specification of positioning of monitor sensors with respect to the electric arc as function of intended high incident energy exposure of test specimens; - modification of specifications of monitor sensor construction; - specification of black paint; - elimination of calorimeters from the chest of the mannequin; - specification for possible positioning of mannequin(s) at a height different from the centre of the electric arc and possible turning in order to adequately expose all parts of the garment or clothing which would affect performance; - more explicit description of requirements for data acquisition system; - preconditioning of the samples; - modification of requirements for apparatus and arc exposure verification by bare shots; - more explicit description of test procedures A and B, in particular the subclauses dealing with “sequence of test”, “test parameter” and “test criteria”; - addition of determination of arc rating values of garments and/or garmet assemblies. Key words: Protective Clothing, Thermal Hazards, Open Arc, Arc Rating
