Standard Specification for Thermoplastic Gas Pressure Pipe, Tubing, and Fittings

SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers requirements and test methods for material (see Appendix X1) dimensions and tolerances, hydrostatic burst strength, chemical resistance, and impact resistance of plastic pipe, tubing, and fittings for use in fuel gas mains and services for direct burial and reliner applications. The annexes provide specific requirements and test methods for each of the materials currently approved. If and when additional materials are available, specific annex requirements will be added. The pipe and fittings covered by this specification are intended for use in the distribution of natural gas. Requirements for the qualifying of polyethylene systems for use with liquefied petroleum gas are covered in Annex A1.
1.1.1 This specification does not cover threaded pipe. Design considerations are discussed in Appendix X2. In-plant quality control programs are specified in Annex A3 and Annex A4.

Standard Test Method for Adequacy of Fusion of Extruded Poly(Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Pipe and Molded Fittings by Acetone Immersion

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
3.1 This test method is applicable only for distinguishing between inadequately fused and adequately fused PVC. The difference between thermally degraded and adequately fused PVC cannot be detected by this test method. Acetone immersion testing is not a substitute for burst, impact, or other physical or chemical tests on PVC pipe or fittings and it, therefore, shall not be used as the only test specification for purchasing of PVC pipe and fittings. This test method only detects inadequate fusion and does not determine the over-all quality of the PVC pipe or fittings.  
3.2 This test method is useful in determining whether inadequate fusion contributed to failure of PVC pipe or fittings in other physical or chemical tests, or in service.  
3.3 This test method is useful in evaluating the adequacy of PVC fusion obtained in process or materials trials.  
3.4 This test method determines adequacy of fusion on a single, relatively small specimen. This test method requires the use of a hazardous reagent which must be properly handled and disposed. Therefore, this test method may not be cost-effective to employ as a routine quality control test.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the adequacy of fusion of extruded rigid poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) pipe and molded fittings as indicated by reaction to immersion in anhydrous acetone.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This practice provides requirements for standardized preparation of sample butt fusions, preparation of specimens from sample butt fusions, and conditioning for testing in accordance with Test Method D638, Test Method D1598, or Test Method D1599. This practice is intended to improve the ability to reliably compare test results from multiple parties.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice provides standardized sample butt fusion preparation, conditioning, and testing conditions for tension testing of specimens prepared from sample butt fusion joints or hydrostatic tests of sample butt fusion joints in accordance with:  
1.1.1 Test Method D638, tension testing;
1.1.1.1 The preparation or use of tensile specimens other than Test Method D638 Type I through Type V is beyond the scope of this practice.  
1.1.2 Test Method D1598, constant (sustained) hydraulic pressure testing;  
1.1.3 Test Method D1599, short-term hydraulic pressure testing.  
1.1.4 It is not within the scope of this practice to include plastic materials other than polyethylene or other tests for butt fusions. The exclusion of other plastic materials and other tests does not imply that other plastic materials are suitable or unsuitable for butt fusion, or that the tests cited herein are adequate or inadequate for qualitative characterization and for research and development of butt fusion joints, or that other tests do not have lesser, equal, or greater utility for such purpose.  
1.1.5 The evaluation of test results and the determination of test result evaluation criteria are not within the scope of this practice. This practice is limited to standardized butt fusion test specimens and testing conditions for the comparison of test data from multiple parties.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers requirements and test methods for materials, dimensions, workmanship, chemical resistance, and joint tightness of poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) sewer and drain pipe and fittings. The pipe shall be made from virgin cell 12164 with a certain minimum tensile strength, 12454 or 12454 poly(vinyl chloride) compounds. SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers 0.070 in. wall thickness crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) tubing that is outside diameter controlled, and intended for non-potable radiant heating applications for pressures up to 75 psig in sizes 5/8 NTS (nominal tubing size) and 7/8 NTS. This specification also includes fittings that are specifically designed for this 0.070 in.-wall PEX tubing. Only maximum 75-psig relief valves shall be used with this tubing.
