The alloys shall also conform to the required mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and Rockwell hardness.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum-copper-nitrogen low-carbon alloy, nickel-iron-chromium-silicon alloy, chromium-nickel-iron-nitrogen low-carbon alloy, iron-nickel-chromium-molybdenum-copper-nitrogen alloy, and nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum-nitrogen alloy plate, sheet, and strip in the annealed temper.
1.2 ASTM International has adopted definitions whereby some grades, such as UNS N08904, previously in this specification were recognized as stainless steels, because those grades have iron as the largest element by mass percent. Such grades are under the oversight of ASTM Committee A01 and its subcommittees. The products of N08904 previously covered in this specification are now covered by Specifications A240/A240M and A480/A480M.
1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to become familiar with all hazards including those identified in the appropriate Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product/material as provided by the manufacturer, to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices, and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

Overview
ASTM B625-21: Standard Specification for Ni-Fe-Cr-Mo-Cu-N Low-Carbon Alloy, Ni-Fe-Cr-Si Alloy, Cr-Ni-Fe-N Low-Carbon Alloy, Fe-Ni-Cr-Mo-Cu-N Alloy, and Ni-Fe-Cr-Mo-N Alloy Plate, Sheet, and Strip defines the requirements for a range of nickel-iron-chromium-based alloys, supplied in plate, sheet, and strip forms, in the annealed temper. The standard covers products made from alloys including UNS N08925, N08031, N08034, N08932, N08926, N08354, N08830, N08935, and R20033, ensuring they meet stringent chemical and mechanical property requirements to support high-performance applications.
The specification is managed by ASTM Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys, and more specifically Subcommittee B02.07 on Refined Nickel and Cobalt and Their Alloys.
Key Topics
- Material Scope: ASTM B625-21 covers flat-rolled products (plate, sheet, and strip) made from multiple nickel-iron-chromium alloys with additions of molybdenum, copper, nitrogen, silicon, and other elements.
- Alloy Designations: Includes important UNS numbers such as N08925, N08031, N08034, N08932, N08926, N08354, N08830, N08935, and R20033.
- Composition Requirements: Strict limits are set on elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, copper, nitrogen, and iron, ensuring reliable performance in demanding applications.
- Mechanical Properties: The products must meet minimum requirements for tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and Rockwell hardness, as specified for each alloy and product form.
- Dimensional Tolerances: Sheet, plate, and strip are supplied according to defined thickness, width, and finish requirements.
- Ordering Information: Purchasers must specify details such as quantity, alloy type, form, dimensions, finish, and whether certifications or test reports are required.
Applications
Products manufactured in accordance with ASTM B625-21 are used in a range of industries where corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and stability at elevated temperatures are critical. Typical applications include:
- Chemical Processing Equipment: Due to superior resistance to aggressive chemicals, acids, and chloride-induced corrosion.
- Oil and Gas Industry: For piping, heat exchangers, and process vessels subjected to harsh environments.
- Power Generation: In boilers, pressure vessels, and components exposed to high temperatures and corrosive atmospheres.
- Pharmaceutical and Food Processing: Where cleanliness, non-reactivity, and material integrity are required.
- Marine Applications: Such as seawater exposure and desalination equipment, taking advantage of high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
ASTM B625-21 supports the demand for high-performance, flat-rolled nickel alloys by specifying uniform quality benchmarks and ensuring compatibility in critical service environments.
Related Standards
Several related ASTM standards interface or overlap with ASTM B625-21, including:
