European foreword
This document (prEN 1868:2025) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 160 “Protection
against falls from height including working belts”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 1868:1997.
This document includes the following significant technical changes with respect to EN 1868:1997:
— the list of equivalent terms was updated based on the current versions of the standards in
CEN/TC 160;
— two columns have been added to indicate the standard(s) in which the terms are defined and the
standard(s) in which the terms are used;
— the scope has been revised to correctly describe what the document is supposed to achieve;
— recommendations have been included to change a few terms which are currently used as these are
not correct.
Introduction
To ensure consistency in the terminology used in standards elaborated in CEN/TC 160, this list of
equivalent terms includes many that are frequently used in current standards and technical specifications
of CEN/TC 160, as given in the bibliography.
The terms are given in the three official languages for CEN standards. Where inconsistencies have been
found in translation of terms in different standards, the document suggests the most appropriate. See
notes to Table 1.
The document is intended to support working groups in using terms in CEN/TC 160 standards in a
consistent way. It can be used as a basis for the translation of standard documents as well as documents
prepared by manufacturers, e.g. manufacturer’s instructions and information.
As CEN/TC 160 standards are revised or new standards published, the Working Group will incorporate
relevant terms in the next revision of this document.

This document specifies a list of terms connected to personal fall protection equipment standards. The
terms are listed in the alphabetical order in the three official languages of CEN, English, German and
French.
