EN 14975:2006+A1:2010 (CEN) - "Loft ladders - Requirements, marking and testing" is the European standard that defines terminology, product requirements and test methods for loft ladders intended to provide access to lofts or similar elevated spaces. It covers functional dimensions, construction and performance limits, marking and user instructions, and required mechanical tests to substantiate safety and durability. The standard is binding for CEN member states and is aimed at single-person loft ladder designs with a maximum total load of 150 kg.

  • Torsion of rungs/treads: torque 50 N·m applied; permanent deformation ≤ ±1°.
  • Handrail test: specified outward/downward loads (outward A/B/C = 100 N, downward D = 500 N, static F = 400 N); permanent deflection limits ≤ 15 mm.
  • Rungs/treads bending: vertical force 2 600 N, max permanent deflection ≤ 3 mm.
  • Ladder stops test for pull-out sliding ladders: repeated drop/arrest procedure to check stops and engagement.
