Characterization of waste - Terminology - Part 1: Material related terms and definitions
This part of the European Standard EN 13965, Characterization of waste - Terminology, Part 1: Material related terms and definitions, concerns concepts which are related to different types of waste. It gives a compilation of selected and updated terms and definitions for use by for example producers, waste industry and legislators in the waste management field. It is harmonized with the current language used in management as well as in regulation. It includes, with references, national terms and definitions where such needs have been expressed. It does not include terms related to specialized activities.
The scope of TC 292 excludes radio active wastes. Therefore such concepts are not included in this standard.
Definitions in other standards with a scope different from the scope of this European Standard can be different from the definitions in this standard.
NOTE In the context of European waste legislation an object can change from being a waste to being a non-waste during its life cycle. Typical examples are concepts making reference to e.g. a residue that may well be either a waste or a non-waste. The intention of this European Standard is not to distinguish between the two states but applies only to objects which have already been classified as waste on the basis of current regulations.
Charakterisierung von Abfällen - Terminologie - Teil 1: Materialbezogene Begriffe
Dieser Teil der Europäischen Norm EN 13965, Charakterisierung von Abfällen - Terminologie - Teil 1: Materialbezogene Begriffe, bezieht sich auf Begriffe, die unterschiedliche Arten von Abfällen betreffen. Dieser Teil der Norm gibt eine Zusammenstellung von ausgewählten und aktualisierten Begriffen, die z. B. für Erzeuger, der Abfallindustrie und Gesetzgeber auf dem Gebiet der Abfallbewirtschaftung bestimmt sind. Er ist mit der in der Bewirtschaftung und in den Regelwerken gebräuchlichen Sprache harmonisiert. Enthalten sind, mit Verweisungen, nationale Benennungen, die bei Bedarf definiert sind. In diesem Teil sind keine Begriffe enthalten, die sich auf einzelne Tätigkeiten beziehen.
Der Anwendungsbereich von TC 292 umfaßt keine radioaktiven Abfälle. Deshalb sind in der vorliegenden Norm keine derartigen Begriffe enthalten.
Definitionen in anderen Normen mit einem Anwend-ungsbereich, der sich von dem der vorliegenden Europäischen Norm unterscheidet, können von den Definitionen in dieser Norm abweichen.
ANMERKUNG Vor dem Hintergrund der Europäischen Gesetzgebung zu Abfall kann sich ein Gegenstand während seiner Lebensdauer von Abfall zu Nicht-Abfall verändern. Absicht der Europäichen Norm ist es nicht, zwischen den beiden Zuständen zu unterscheiden, sondern sie ist nur anwendbar auf Gegenstände, die auf der Basis der geltenden Regelungen bereits als Abfälle eingestuft wurden.

La présente partie de la Norme européenne EN 13965, Caractérisation des déchets - Terminologie, Partie 1 : Termes et définitions relatifs aux matériaux, traite des notions liées aux différents types de déchets. Elle donne une sélection de termes et de définitions actualisées, à l'usage par exemple des producteurs, des professionnels de l'industrie de traitement des déchets et des personnes chargées de la réglementation relative à la gestion des déchets. La terminologie traitée dans la présente norme a été harmonisée avec le langage couramment utilisé dans la gestion et dans les textes réglementaires. Lorsque le besoin en a été exprimé, des termes et définitions nationaux ont été inclus avec les références bibliographiques. En revanche, elle n'inclut pas de termes relatifs à des activités spécifiques.
Le domaine d'application du TC 292 exclut les déchets radioactifs. Par conséquent, les notions relatives à ce domaine ne figurent pas dans la présente norme.
Les définitions données dans d'autres normes ayant un domaine d'application différent de celui de la présente Norme européenne peuvent différer des définitions données dans la présente norme.
NOTE Dans le contexte de la réglementation européenne, un bien considéré comme déchet dans un premier temps peut devenir un produit au cours de son cycle de vie. Des exemples type sont les notions faisant référence à un résidu qui peut être aussi bien un déchet que ne pas être un déchet. L'objectif de cette Norme européenne n'est pas de faire une distinction entre ces deux statuts puisqu'elle ne s'applique qu'à des matériaux considérés comme des déchets aux termes de la réglementation en vigueur.

Characterization of waste - Terminology - Part 1: Material related terms and definitions La présente Norme européenne a été adoptée par le CEN le 10 juillet 2003.
