This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 473:2000; it was approved by CEN on 29 August 2005.
CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this
amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the Central Secretariat or to any CEN member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Central Secretariat has the same status as the official versions.

Foreword
This European Standard (EN 473:2000/A1:2005) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 138
“Non-destructive testing”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2006, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the
latest by April 2006.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania,
Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland
and United Kingdom.

Replace the content of Clauses 9 "Renewal" and 10 "Recertification" of EN 473:2000 by the following:
9 Renewal
9.1 Upon expiration of the first period of validity and every ten years thereafter, certification may be renewed
by the certification body for a new period of five years on production of:
a) written evidence of a satisfactory visual acuity examination taken within the preceding 12 months;
b) documentary evidence of continued satisfactory work activity without significant interruption (see 3.25) in
the method and sector for which certificate renewal is sought.
9.2 If the subclause 9.1 (b) criterion for renewal is not satisfied, the individual shall be permitted to attempt
recertification.
10 Recertification
10.1 Levels 1 and 2 certificate holders seeking recertification shall meet the criteria of 9.1 (a) and (b) for
renewal and satisfy 10.1.1. In the case of operators carrying out repetitive testing in sectors dealing with mass
products, 10.1.2 may be used instead of 10.1.1; this alternative route will only allow recertification with a
limited scope as defined by the Certification Body.
