ISO 3679:2004 specifies a method for the determination of the closed cup flash point of paints (including water-borne paints), varnishes, paint binders, adhesives, solvents, petroleum, and related products having closed cup flash points within the range of - 30 degrees Celsius to 300 degrees Celsius. When used in conjunction with the flash detector (A.1.6), ISO 3679:2004 is also suitable for the determination of the flash point of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME).

Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Flammpunktes im geschlossenen Tiegel von Beschichtungsstoffen (einschließlich wasserverdünnbare Beschichtungsstoffe), Bindemitteln für Beschichtungsstoffe, Klebstoffen, Lösemitteln, Mineralölerzeugnissen und verwandten Produkten für den Bereich zwischen -30 °C und 300 °C fest. Wird der Detektor (A.1.6) eingesetzt, so kann diese Internationale Norm auch für die Bestimmung der Flammpunkte von Fettsäuremethylestern (FAME) herangezogen werden.

L'ISO 3679:2004 spécifie une méthode de détermination du point d'éclair en vase clos des peintures (y compris les peintures à support aqueux), des vernis, des liants pour peintures, des adhésifs, des solvants, des produits pétroliers et des produits connexes, dont le point d'éclair est compris entre -30 °C et 300 °C. Lorsqu'elle est utilisée avec le détecteur d'éclair, l'ISO 3679:2004 convient aussi pour la détermination du point d'éclair des esters méthyliques d'acide gras (EMAG).

This document describes three procedures (A, B and C) covering determinations of flash no-flash and flash point.

The validity of the precision is given in Table 2.
Non-equilibrium procedure C is applicable to petroleum products including aviation turbine, diesel and kerosine fuels, and related petroleum products, over the temperature range –20 °C to 300 °C. The non-equilibrium procedure is automated to determine the flash point. Precision has been determined over the range 40 °C to 135 °C.
For specifications and regulations, procedures A or B are routinely used (see 10.1.1).

This document specifies a procedure, at temperatures up to 100 °C, to determine whether a liquid product, that would be classified as “flammable” by virtue of its flash point, sustains combustion at the temperature(s) specified e.g. in regulations.
NOTE       Many national and international regulations classify liquids as presenting a flammable hazard based on their flash point, as determined by a recognized method. Some of these regulations allow a derogation if the substance cannot “sustain combustion” at some specified temperature(s).
The procedure is applicable to paints (including water-borne paints), varnishes, paint binders, solvents, petroleum or related products and adhesives, that have a flash point. It is not applicable to painted surfaces in respect of assessing their potential fire hazards.
This test method is applicable, in addition to test methods for flash point, for assessing the fire hazard of a product.

This document specifies design, type test methods, marking and instruction requirements for cylinder valves with integrated pressure regulators (VIPRs) intended to be fitted to gas cylinders, pressure drums or tubes or used as a main valve for bundles of cylinders that convey compressed, liquefied or dissolved gases.
These are requirements for VIPRs that are in addition to those given in the relevant closure standard, for example, in ISO 10297 for cylinder valves, in ISO 17871 for quick-release cylinder valves, in ISO 17879 for self-closing cylinder valves or in ISO 23826 for ball valves. For ISO 17871, these requirements are only applicable to quick-release cylinder valves types B, C, D and E.
NOTE 1        If the pressure regulating system of a VIPR is acting as the primary valve operating mechanism, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826. This also includes designs where closure of the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is obtained by closing the seat of the pressure regulating system.
NOTE 2        If the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is located at the low-pressure side of the pressure regulating system, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826.
NOTE 3        The term “pressure receptacle” is used within this document to cover instances where no differentiation is necessary between gas cylinders, bundles of cylinders, pressure drums and tubes.
This document does not apply to VIPRs for
a)       medical applications (see ISO 10524-3);
b)       liquefied petroleum gas (LPG);
c)        cryogenic applications.
NOTE 4        Additional requirements for a VIPR with a residual pressure device (RPD) are specified in ISO 15996.
