The standard EN 707:1999+A1:2009 outlines critical safety requirements specific to the design and construction of slurry tankers, which are essential in the realm of agricultural machinery. By focusing on semi-mounted, trailed, and self-propelled slurry tankers, including their spreading or injecting devices, the standard establishes a clear framework for ensuring safety in machinery operation. One of the significant strengths of this standard is its comprehensive identification of potential hazards associated with slurry tankers. The inclusion of Annex A, which details significant hazards and highlights those not addressed within the scope of the standard, provides manufacturers and operators with a clear understanding of safety considerations. This enables better compliance and enhances safety measures during the operation of slurry tankers. Another essential element of the standard is its emphasis on the verification process for safety requirements. By mandating that manufacturers provide essential information on safe working practices, EN 707 ensures that users are adequately informed to operate the machinery safely and effectively. This guidance is vital in promoting a culture of safety within the agricultural machinery sector. While the standard excludes braking requirements, citing that they will be assessed in future revisions along with evolving European regulations, it still maintains significant relevance given the current context of agricultural machinery operation. Moreover, the decision not to include environmental aspects shows a focused approach on safety rather than environmental impact, making the standard particularly relevant for immediate safety concerns. Overall, EN 707:1999+A1:2009 stands out as a significant document that lays down essential safety frameworks for slurry tankers. Its clearly defined scope and the structured approach toward addressing safety measures make it a pivotal reference for manufacturers and operators in the agricultural machinery industry.
