ISO 15831:2004 describes the requirements of the thermal manikin and the test procedure used to measure the thermal insulation of a clothing ensemble, as it becomes effective for the wearer in practical use in a relatively calm environment, with the wearer either standing or moving.

Diese Internationale Norm legt die Anforderungen an die Thermopuppe und das Prüfverfahren zur Messung der Wärmeisolation einer Bekleidungskombination fest, wie sich diese bei der praktischen Verwendung in einer relativ windstillen Umgebung auf den stehenden oder sich bewegenden Träger auswirkt.
ANMERKUNG   Diese Wärmeisolation kann neben anderen Parametern verwendet werden, um die physiologische Wirkung der Bekleidung auf den Träger unter besonderen klimatischen oder Tätigkeitsbedingungen zu bestimmen.

L'ISO 15831:2004 décrit les exigences relatives au mannequin thermique ainsi qu'au mode opératoire d'essai permettant de mesurer l'isolation thermique d'une tenue vestimentaire au moment où elle devient efficace pour le porteur au cours d'une utilisation courante dans un environnement relativement calme, le porteur se tenant debout ou étant en mouvement.

This document (EN ISO 15831:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 38
"Textiles" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 162 "Protective clothing including
hand and arm protection and lifejackets", the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by August 2004, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by August 2004.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission
and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU
Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annex ZA, which is an integral part of this
document.

Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential
Requirements of EU Directive 89/686
This European Standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European

Commission and the European Free Trade Association to provide a means of conforming to
Essential Requirements of the New Approach Directive 89/686.
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Communities under that
Directive and has been implemented as a national standard in at least one Member State,
compliance with the normative clauses of this standard given in Table ZA.1 confers, within the
limits of the scope of this standard, a presumption of conformity with the corresponding Essential
Requirements of that Directive and associated EFTA regulations.
