1.1 This European Standard specifies the safety requirements for design, construction, installation, maintenance and testing of dock levellers and for safety components on dock levellers.
With the exception of:
a) dock levellers for marine and aircraft applications;
b) lifting tables;
c) vehicle mounted tail lifts.
NOTE 1 Requirements for lifting tables are laid down in EN 1570.
NOTE 2 Requirements for vehicle mounted tail lifts are laid down in EN 1756-1.
1.2 This European Standard is applicable to dock levellers which are used by persons and/or manual or power driven transport equipment (e. g. forklift trucks) as traffic paths between goods vehicles, both road vehicles and rail wagons, and parts of buildings such as loading docks. This document applies to all types of Storage and Retrieval (S/R) machines, restricted to the rails on which they travel within and outside the aisles for the storage and retrieval of unit loads and/or long goods such as bar materials and/or for order picking or similar duties. These machines shall embody lifting means along a mast and may include lateral handling facilities. Also included is the transfer equipment used to change between aisles. Control of machines may range from manual to fully automatic.
S/R-machine-related satellite vehicles according to definition 3.20 are included as a load-handling-device (LHD).
References in this standard to racking, buildings and systems only apply where it is necessary to assess the hazards and risks at their interfaces with S/R machines.
This document deals with all significant hazards relevant to rail dependent storage and retrieval equipment, when they are used under the conditions intended by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse (see Annex F "List of significant hazards")).
This document applies to machines and equipment that are manufactured after the date of issue of this document.
Illustrations of examples of machines and transfer equipment to which this standard applies are shown in Annex A.
Safety requirements and/or measures in this standard apply to equipment used under indoor conditions. However, additional risk assessments and safety measures need to be considered for uses in severe conditions, e.g. extremely high temperatures, loads, the nature of which could lead to a dangerous situation (e.g. especially brittle loads, explosives), earthquake effects and also contact with foodstuff.
This document also deals with the technical requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

This document specifies the structural design requirements applicable to all types of adjustable beam pallet rack systems fabricated from steel members intended for the storage of unit loads and subject to predominantly static loads. Both un-braced and braced systems are included.
This document gives guidelines for the design of clad rack buildings where requirements are not covered in the EN 1993 series. The requirements of this document also apply to ancillary structures, where rack components are employed as the main structural members.
This document does not cover other generic types of storage structures. Specifically, this document does not apply to mobile storage systems, drive-in, drive-through, pallet live storage, push back, shuttle systems, systems where two or more cranes operates one above another in the same aisle and cantilever racks or static steel shelving systems.
For the specific design of adjustable pallet racking for use in seismic areas, this document is to be used in combination with EN 16681.

This document specifies tolerances, deformations and clearances that pertain to the production, assembly and erection and performance under load of pallet racking and cantilever racking. These tolerances, deformations and clearances are important in relation to the functional requirements and ensuring the proper interaction of the handling equipment used by personnel, trained and qualified as competent, in association with the specific type of racking system. The interaction conditions are also important in determining the reliability of the storage system to ensure that the chance of mechanical handling equipment impact, pallet impact or a system breakdown is acceptably low.
This document is limited to:
— single deep adjustable beam pallet racking operated with industrial trucks;
— single and double deep adjustable beam pallet racking operated with stacker cranes;
— drive-in and drive through racking systems operated with industrial trucks;
— cantilever racking systems operated with industrial trucks.
This document does not apply to specialized types of equipment such as automated trucks, miniload, satellite systems, systems involving the use of articulated trucks, trucks using intrusive stacking methods or industrial truck serviced rack-clad buildings.
This document specifically excludes the tolerances and deformation of the industrial trucks, stacker cranes and floors.
It is the responsibility of the specifier in cooperation with the client or user to ensure that the tolerances, deformations and clearances, as quoted in this document are acceptable for safe operation of the overall system considering all factors of influence and the user informed by means such as operation instructions. The specifier can carry out appropriate design/calculations to vary some of the parameters provided that an equivalent safe operation is achieved.
This document gives guidance to be used in conjunction with mechanical handling equipment and floor information.

This European Standard is applicable to the design of securing methods (blocking, lashing, and combinations) for securing of loads for surface transport by road vehicles or parts of them (lorries, trailers, containers and swap bodies), including their transport on vessels or by rail and/or combinations thereof. Hump shunting with acceleration over 1 g during railway transport is excluded, as it is not foreseen in combined transport. (Web lashings see EN 12195-2, lashing chains see EN 12195-3, lashing steel wire ropes see EN 12195-4).
This European Standard does not apply for vehicles with a total weight equal to or lower than 3 500 kg.
NOTE Lighter vehicles can have driving characteristics, which give higher values of acceleration on the road.
For dimensioning of load securing a distinction is made between stable loads and loads liable to tilting.
Furthermore, the acceleration coefficients for surface transport are specified.
For over top lashing the force loss in the tension force of the lashing at the outer edges between load and lashing is taken into account. The securing forces to be chosen for calculation in this EN 12195-1 are static forces produced by blocking or tensioning of lashings and dynamic forces, which act on the lashing as a reaction of the load movements.
Examples for the application of calculations are given in Annex A.
