Furniture - Beds - Requirements for safety, strength and durability
This document specifies requirements on safety, strength and durability for all types of fully assembled beds used by adults in domestic and non-domestic environments including their components, such as bed frames, bed bases, mattresses and mattress pads (when they form a unit with the mattress) and, when supplied with the bed base, mattresses and mattress pads.
The tests are based on use by persons weighing up to 110 kg.
With the exception of sleeping functions, it does not apply to foldaway beds.
It does not apply to bunk beds, high beds and medical beds where separate Standards exist, as well as waterbeds and air beds.
Additional requirements can be applicable to items that have additional functions, e.g. storage features, day beds and convertible sofa-beds.
The durability test, 6.6.1, test 11, applies only to electrically operated beds.
It does not include requirements for the resistance to ageing, degradation, flammability and electrical safety.
Annex A (normative) specifies test methods for finger entrapment.
Annex B (informative) gives a rationale.

Dieses Dokument legt Anforderungen bezüglich der Sicherheit, Festigkeit und Dauerhaltbarkeit für alle Arten gebrauchsfertiger Betten, die von Erwachsenen im Wohnbereich und im Nicht Wohnbereich genutzt werden, einschließlich ihrer Bauteile wie Bettgestelle, Bettböden, Matratzen und Matratzenauflagen (wenn sie eine Einheit mit der Matratze bilden), und wenn sie mit dem Bettboden, Matratzen und Matratzenauflagen geliefert werden, fest.
Die Prüfungen sind auf die Benutzung durch Personen mit einem Körpergewicht bis zu 110 kg ausgelegt.
Mit Ausnahme der Schlaffunktionen ist dieses Dokument nicht für Klappbetten anwendbar.
Es ist nicht für Etagenbetten, Hochbetten und medizinisch genutzte Betten, für die gesonderte Normen gelten, sowie für Wasser und Luftbetten anwendbar.

Die Prüfung der Dauerhaltbarkeit, 6.6.1, Prüfung 11, ist nur für elektrisch angetriebene Betten anwendbar.
Es enthält keine Anforderungen an die Alterungsbeständigkeit, Materialermüdung, Entflammbarkeit und elektrische Sicherheit.
Anhang A (normativ) legt Prüfverfahren für Fingerfangstellen fest.
Anhang B (informativ) enthält eine Begründung.

Le présent document spécifie les exigences de sécurité, de résistance et de durabilité de tous types de lits entièrement assemblés. Le présent document s'applique aux lits pour adultes, à usage domestique et non domestique, ainsi qu’à leurs composants : l’encadrement, le sommier, le matelas et le sur-matelas (s’il forme une unité avec le matelas) et, s’ils sont fournis avec le sommier, le matelas et le sur-matelas.
Les essais sont basés sur l’utilisation par une personne dont la masse est au plus de 110 kg.
À l’exception des fonctions liées au sommeil, le présent document ne s’applique pas aux lits rabattables.
Il ne s’applique pas aux lits superposés et surélevés, ni aux lits destinés aux soins médicaux pour lesquels il existe d’autres normes européennes, ni aux lits à eau et à air.
Des exigences additionnelles peuvent s’appliquer aux éléments qui présentent des fonctions supplémentaires, tels que les lits équipés d’une fonction rangement, les méridiennes et assimilés et les canapés convertibles.
L’essai de durabilité 6.6.1, essai 11, s’applique uniquement aux lits avec fonction électrique.
Il n’inclut aucune exigence relative à la résistance au vieillissement, à la dégradation, ni à la résistance au feu et à la sécurité électrique.

This document (EN 1725:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 207 “Furniture”, the
secretariat of which is held by UNI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by month May 2024, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by May 2024.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 1725:1998.
In comparison with the previous edition EN 1725:1998, the following technical modifications have been
made:
— addition of horizontal test methods;
— addition of test method for durability of electrically operated bed mechanism;
— reference to the test methods of ISO 19833:2018;
— introduction of requirements for guest beds;
— introduction of requirement for non-domestic use;
— introduction of information for use;
— addition of requirements for strength and durability;
— addition of entanglement hazards.
