ISO 15493:2003 specifies the characteristics and requirements for components such as pipes, fittings and valves made from one of the following materials:
acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS);unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U);chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-C);
intended to be used for thermoplastics piping systems in above-ground industrial applications.

Diese Internationale Norm legt Eigenschaften und Anforderungen an Rohrleitungsteile wie Rohre, Formstücke und Armaturen aus einem der folgenden Werkstoffe:
¾ Acrylnitril-Butadien-Styrol (ABS);
¾ weichmacherfreies Polyvinylchlorid (PVC-U);
¾ chloriertes Polyvinylchlorid (PVC-C)
fest, die für oberirdisch verlegte Industrierohrleitungen aus thermoplastischen Kunststoffen eingesetzt werden.
Diese Norm gilt für Rohre, Formstücke, Armaturen und Zubehörteile aus ABS, PVC-U oder PVC-C, deren Verbin-dungen untereinander sowie mit Rohrleitungsteilen aus anderen Kunststoffen und Werkstoffen, die abhängig von ihrer Eignung für den Transport von flüssigen und gasförmigen Fluiden sowie von festen Bestandteilen in Fluiden, u.a. für die folgenden Anwendungen vorgesehen sind:
¾ chemische Industrieanlagen;
¾ Industrieabwassertechnik;
¾ Energietechnik (Kühl- und Brauchwasser);
¾ Galvanisierungs- und Beizanlagen;
¾ Halbleiterindustrie;
¾ Futtermittelindustrie;
¾ Kläranlagen.
ANMERKUNG 1 Sofern zutreffend, gelten für besondere Anwendungen (z. B. Kläranlagen) nationale Vorschriften.
Andere Anwendungen als die oben aufgeführten sind zulässig, wenn die Anforderungen dieser Norm und/oder betreffende nationale Anforderungen erfüllt werden.
Entsprechende Vorschriften über das Brandverhalten und mögliche Explosionsgefahren gelten beim Einsatz von leicht entflammbaren Fluiden.
Die Rohrleitungsteile müssen den zu erwartenden mechanischen, thermischen und chemischen Anforderungen widerstehen und gegenüber den transportierten Fluiden beständig sein.
Eigenschaften und Anforderungen, die für alle Werkstoffe (ABS, PVC-U und PVC-C) gelten, sind in den ent-sprechen-den Abschnitten dieser Norm aufgeführt. Werkstoffspezifische Eigenschaften und Anforderungen sind für jeden dieser Werkstoffe in einem Anhang (siehe Tabelle 1) festgelegt.

L'ISO 15493:2003 spécifie les caractéristiques et exigences des composants tels que les tubes, les raccords et les robinets fabriqués à partir d'une des matières suivantes: acrylonitrile-butadiène-styrène (ABS); poly(chlorure de vinyle) non plastifié (PVC-U); poly(chlorure de vinyle) chloré (PVC-C); destinés à être utilisés dans les systèmes de canalisations thermoplastiques pour des applications industrielles aériennes.

Ta mednarodni standard določa lastnosti in zahteve za dele cevovoda, kot so cevi, fitingi in ventili iz enega od naslednjih materialov:
akrilonitril butadienstiren (ABS);
nemehčan polivinilklorid (PVC-U);
kloriran polivinilklorid (PVC-C);
ki so namenjeni uporabi za plastomerne cevne sisteme za nadzemno uporabo v industriji.
Ta mednarodni standard se uporablja za cevi, fitinge, ventile in pomožno opremo iz akrilonitril butadienstirena, nemehčanega polivinilklorida ali kloriranega polivinilklorida ter njihove spoje ali spoje z deli iz drugih polimernih in nepolimernih materialov, odvisno od ustreznosti, ki so namenjeni za prenos tekočine in plinastih tekočin ter trdnih snovi v tekočinah za uporabo v industriji, kar vključuje:

Če je predvidena uporaba z vnetljivimi mediji, se uporabljajo ustrezni predpisi v povezavi s tveganjem pri obnašanju ognja in eksplozijah.
Deli cevovoda morajo prenesti pričakovane mehanske, toplotne in kemijske zahteve ter biti odporni na tekočine, ki se bodo prenašale.
Lastnosti in zahteve, ki se uporabljajo za vse tri materiale (ABS, PVC-U in PVC-C) so obravnavane v ustreznih točkah tega mednarodnega standarda. Lastnosti in zahteve, ki so odvisne od materiala, so navedene v ustreznih dodatkih za vsak material.
