Plastics - Thermoplastic materials - Determination of Vicat softening temperature (VST) (ISO 306:2004)

ISO 306:2004 specifies four methods for the determination of the Vicat softening temperature (VST) of thermoplastic materials:
Method A50 using a force of 10 N and a heating rate of 50 °C/h
Method B50 using a force of 50 N and a heating rate of 50 °C/h
Method A120 using a force of 10 N and a heating rate of 120 °C/h
Method B120 using a force of 50 N and a heating rate of 120 °C/h.
The methods specified are applicable only to thermoplastics, for which they give a measure of the temperature at which the thermoplastics start to soften rapidly.

Kunststoffe - Thermoplaste - Bestimmung der Vicat-Erweichungstemperatur (VST) (ISO 306:2004)

1.1   Diese Internationale Norm legt vier Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Vicat Erweichungstemperatur (VST) von Thermoplasten fest:
   Verfahren A50 mit einer Kraft von 10 N und einer Heizrate von 50 °C/h
   Verfahren B50 mit einer Kraft von 50 N und einer Heizrate von 50 °C/h
   Verfahren A120 mit einer Kraft von 10 N und einer Heizrate von 120 °C/h
   Verfahren B120 mit einer Kraft von 50 N und einer Heizrate von 120 °C/h
1.2   Die festgelegten Verfahren sind nur auf Thermoplaste anwendbar, für die sie eine Kennzahl der Temperatur liefern, bei der die Thermoplaste schnell zu erweichen beginnen.

L'ISO 306:2004 spécifie quatre méthodes de détermination de la température de ramollissement Vicat (VST) des matériaux thermoplastiques:
Méthode A50 utilisant une charge de 10 N et une vitesse de chauffage de 50 °C/h;
Méthode B50 utilisant une charge de 50 N et une vitesse de chauffage de 50 °C/h;
Méthode A120 utilisant une charge de 10 N et une vitesse de chauffage de 120 °C/h;
Méthode B120 utilisant une charge de 50 N et une vitesse de chauffage de 120 °C/h.
Les méthodes spécifiées sont seulement applicables aux thermoplastiques, dont elles permettent de mesurer la température à laquelle leur ramollissement devient rapide.

This document (EN ISO 306:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61
"Plastics" in collaborationwith Technical Committee CEN/TC 249 "Plastics", the secretariat of
which is held by IBN.

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by January 2005, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by January 2005.
