Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys - Assessment of quality of sealed anodic oxidation coatings by measurement of admittance (ISO 2931:2017)

ISO 2931:2017 specifies a method for assessing the quality of sealed anodic oxidation coatings on aluminium and its alloys by measurement of the admittance.
The method is applicable to anodic oxidation coatings sealed in an aqueous medium.
NOTE 1    Results obtained from anodic oxidation coatings sealed by different methods, e.g. hydrothermal sealing and cold sealing, are not necessarily comparable.
NOTE 2    Results obtained from anodic oxidation coatings on alloys containing more than 2 % silicon or 5 % manganese or 3 % magnesium are not comparable with results obtained from anodic oxidation coatings on more dilute alloys.
The method is suitable for use as a production-control test and as an acceptance test where there is agreement between the anodizer and the customer.
Any type of anodized component can be tested by the method described, provided that there is a sufficient area (a circle of diameter about 20 mm) and that the film thickness is greater than 3 µm.

Anodisieren von Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen - Prüfung der Qualität von verdichteten, anodisch erzeugten Oxidschichten durch Messung des Scheinleitwertes (ISO 2931:2017)

Dieses Dokument legt ein Verfahren zur Prüfung der Qualität von verdichteten, anodisch erzeugten Oxidschichten auf Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen durch Messung des Scheinleitwertes fest.
Das Verfahren ist auf anodisch erzeugte Oxidschichten anwendbar, die in einer wässrigen Lösung verdichtet wurden.
ANMERKUNG 1   Ergebnisse, die für anodisch erzeugte Oxidschichten erzielt wurden, welche mit unterschiedlichen Verfahren (z. B. hydrothermales Verdichten und Kaltimprägnieren) verdichtet wurden, sind nicht zwangsweise vergleichbar.
ANMERKUNG 2   Ergebnisse, die für anodisch erzeugte Oxidschichten auf Legierungen erzielt wurden, die mehr als 2 % Silicon oder 5 % Mangan oder 3 % Magnesium enthalten, sind nicht vergleichbar mit den Ergebnissen, die für anodisch erzeugte Oxidschicht auf stärker verdünnten Legierungen erzielt wurden.
Das Verfahren ist zur innerbetrieblichen Produktionsüberwachung geeignet und nach Vereinbarung zwischen dem das Anodisationsverfahren durchführenden Unternehmen und dem Besteller auch für Abnahmeprüfungen anwendbar.
Alle Arten von anodisierten Gegenständen können nach dem beschriebenen Verfahren geprüft werden, vorausgesetzt es gibt eine ausreichend große Messfläche (Kreis mit etwa 20 mm Durchmesser) und die Schichtdicke ist größer als 3 μm.

ISO 2931:2017 spécifie une méthode d'évaluation de la qualité des couches anodiques colmatées formées sur de l'aluminium ou des alliages d'aluminium, par mesurage de l'admittance.
Cette méthode est applicable aux couches anodiques colmatées en milieu aqueux.
NOTE 1    Les résultats obtenus sur des couches anodiques colmatées par des méthodes différentes, par exemple par colmatage hydrothermique ou par colmatage à froid, ne sont pas nécessairement comparables.
NOTE 2    Les résultats obtenus sur des couches anodiques formées sur des alliages contenant plus de 2 % de silicium ou plus de 5 % de manganèse ou plus de 3 % de magnésium ne sont pas comparables aux résultats obtenus sur des couches anodiques formées sur des alliages dans lesquels ces concentrations sont inférieures.
Cette méthode peut être utilisée pour les contrôles de la production et pour les contrôles de réception lorsqu'un accord a été conclu entre l'anodiseur et le client.
Des produits anodisés de tout type peuvent être soumis à essai selon la méthode décrite pour autant que leur surface soit suffisante (un cercle d'environ 20 mm de diamètre) et que l'épaisseur de la couche soit supérieure à 3 μm.

Ta dokument določa metodo za ocenjevanje kakovosti tesnjenih anodno oksidiranih prevlek na aluminiju in aluminijevih zlitinah z meritvijo admitance.
Metoda se uporablja za anodno oksidirane prevleke, zatesnjene v vodnem mediju.
OPOMBA 1: Rezultati, pridobljeni iz anodno oksidiranih prevlek, zatesnjenih z različnimi metodami, kot sta hidrotermalna
in hladna zatesnitev, niso nujno primerljivi.
OPOMBA 2: Rezultati, pridobljeni iz anodno oksidiranih prevlek na zlitinah, ki vsebujejo več kot 2 % silicija ali 5 %
mangana ali 3 % magnezija, niso primerljivi z rezultati, pridobljenimi iz anodno oksidiranih prevlek na bolj razredčenih zlitinah.
Metoda je primerna kot kontrolni preskus proizvoda in kot preskus sprejemljivosti, če je tak dogovor med izvajalcem eloksacije in stranko.
Vse vrste anodiziranih komponent je mogoče preskusiti z opisano metodo pod pogojem, da je
površina dovolj velika (krog s premerom približno 20 mm) in da je debelina premaza najmanj 3 μm.

Introduction
The test described in this document is intended to give a quick, non-destructive assessment of the
quality of sealed anodic oxidation coatings and is very suitable for routine production control. It is
carried out following sealing and before any other supplementary process is undertaken, for example,
oiling, waxing or lacquering.
The correlation of the results obtained with those of other tests that can assess sealing quality such as
that of ISO 2143 can be affected by the presence of sealing additives or contaminants such as silicate
or phosphate. For this reason, the quality is checked from time to time by one of the reference acid-
dissolution methods specified in ISO 3210.
The pre-treatment, the anodizing process, the colouring process used and the alloy can all have an
effect on admittance readings.
