This amendment A3 modifies the European Standard EN 419-1:1999; it was approved by CEN on 19 October 2002.
CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this
amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the Management Centre or to any CEN member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

Foreword
This document (EN 419-1:1999/A3:2002) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN /TC 180 "Non-domestic
gas-fired overhead radiant heaters", the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This amendment to the European Standard EN 419-1;1999 shall be given the status of a national standard, either
by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2003, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by June 2003.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European
Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
This amendment modifies EN 419-1:1999. It has been prepared to incorporate requirements for range-rated
appliances.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

3 Definitions
Insert the following definition after 3.3.10:

3.3.11
range-rating device
a component on the appliance intended to be used by the installer to adjust the heat input of the appliance within a
range of heat inputs stated by the manufacturer; to suit the actual heat requirements of the installation
This adjustment may be progressive (e.g. by use of a screw adjuster) or in discrete steps (e.g. by changing
restrictors).’.
Amend the definition number as follows (the definition is to be retained):
‘3.3.12 automatic shut-off valve’.
5 Constructional requirements
5.2 Requirements for adjusting, control and safety devices
Insert the following after 5.2.2:
‘5.2.3 Range-rating devices
A range-rating device on an appliance is optional.
For appliances in category II the gas rate adjuster and the range-rating device may be one and the same.

However, if the gas rate adjuster has to be sealed, either completely or partially, when the appliance is supplied
with a second family gas, the gas rate adjuster or its sealed part shall no longer be used by the installer as a range-
rating device.’
Amend the clause numbers as follows (the content of these clauses is to be retained):
