This test method defines the procedure for the determination of the curing-characteristic and glass transition temperature of non-metallic materials (e.g. preimpregnated and neat resin systems, adhesives) for aerospace use by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).
The results obtained by this method may be useful for:
- derivation of the optimum cure cycle (only together with other test methods e.g. Tg determination)
- assessment of the condition of the resin
- assessment of the ageing behavior of the resin
This European Standard does not give any directions necessary to meet the health and safety requirements. It is the responsibility of the user of this European Standard to adopt appropriate health and safety precautions.

Dieses Prüfverfahren legt eine Methode zur Bestimmung der Härtungscharakteristik und der Glasübergangs¬temperatur von nichtmetallischen Werkstoffen (z. B. Prepreg- und Reinharz-Systeme, Klebstoffe) für die Luft- und Raumfahrt mittels der dynamischen Differenzkalorimetrie (en: Differential Scanning Calorimeter, DSC) fest.
Die anhand dieses Verfahrens erzielten Ergebnisse dürfen herangezogen werden für:
- Ableitung des optimalen Härtungszyklus (nur im Zusammenhang mit anderen Verfahren, z. B. Tg Bestimmung);
- Bestimmung des Harzzustandes;
- Beurteilung des Harz-Auslagerungsverhaltens.
Diese Europäische Norm enthält keine Anweisungen in Bezug auf die einzuhaltenden Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsanforderungen. Es ist die Verantwortung des Anwenders dieser Europäischen Norm, die jeweils erforderlichen Gesundheits- und Sicherheitsvorkehrungen zu treffen.

La présente méthode d’essai définit la procédure pour la détermination des caractéristiques de polymérisation et de la température de transition vitreuse des matériaux non métalliques (par exemple : préimprégné et systèmes de résines pures, adhésifs) pour utilisation aérospatiale par Analyse Enthalpique Différentielle (AED).
Les résultats obtenus par cette méthode peuvent être utiles pour :
- dérivation du cycle de polymérisation optimal (uniquement associée à d’autres méthodes d’essai, par exemple : détermination Tg)
- évaluation de l’état de la résine
- évaluation du comportement en vieillissement de la résine
La présente norme ne fournit aucune consigne nécessaire à la satisfaction des exigences de santé et de sécurité. La responsabilité d’adopter les précautions d’hygiène et de sécurité appropriées incombe à l’utilisateur de la présente norme.

1 Scope
This test method defines the procedure for the determination of the curing-characteristic and glass
transition temperature of non-metallic materials (e.g. preimpregnated and neat resin systems,

For the purposes of this document, the following symbols and definitions apply.
The determination of these parameters shall be agreed upon between manufacturer and purchaser in
case of non-ideal curves or different instrument types.

4 Principle of the method
Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) measures the temperatures and the heat flow associated with
transitions in materials as a function of time and temperature.
