Overview
prEN 6129:2024 is a European standard established by CEN detailing specifications for aerospace-grade blind bolts featuring a protruding head, high strength, and pull-type installation method. This stainless steel blind bolt is engineered to meet rigorous aerospace demands, ensuring reliable performance through precise configuration, defined dimensions, strict tolerances, and controlled mass.
Developed by ASD-STAN and superseding EN 6129:2016, prEN 6129:2024 delivers updated requirements aligned with current aerospace fastener technology. Its comprehensive scope focuses on ensuring dimensional accuracy, material integrity, and mechanical strength essential for critical aerospace applications.
Key Topics
Configuration and Dimensions
The standard specifies exact geometric configurations, including the protruding head and serrated pin geometry, designed for optimal installation and performance in aerospace assemblies.Tolerances and Strength Requirements
It sets allowable dimensional tolerances and defines key mechanical properties such as static strength, tensile preload, and spindle retention values, critical to maintaining structural integrity under operational stresses.Grip Range and Mass
Detailed tables establish grip length ranges for different diameter codes (05, 06, 08) and provide precise mass values per 1,000 pieces to inform weight-critical aerospace design considerations.Material, Finish, and Lubrication
The bolt comprises stainless steel materials meeting SAE AMS specifications (including A-286, 316 CRES, Inconel options), with finish codes defining passivation and protective coatings. Lubrication standards are specified to ensure corrosion resistance and installation quality.Designation and Marking
The standard includes a structured designation system for identification and traceability, alongside marking requirements based on EN 2424 to ensure efficient fastener management and compliance verification.
Applications
Aerospace Structural Assemblies
prEN 6129 blind bolts are designed for use in aircraft and spacecraft assemblies requiring high-strength, reliable fastening solutions with minimized weight impact.Maintenance and Repair
The pull-type blind bolt installation enables access-limited fastening, simplifying maintenance in confined aerospace structures without compromising structural performance.High-Performance Environments
With corrosion-resistant stainless steel materials and validated mechanical properties, these blind bolts are ideal for aeronautical components exposed to extreme environments, thermal cycles, and mechanical fatigue.Precision Engineering
The standard’s tight dimensional tolerances and defined grip ranges support precision engineering applications within aerospace, ensuring proper fit and load distribution in multi-material assemblies.
