La présente Norme européenne a été élaborée sous le mandat M/129 « Appareils de chauffage » donné au CEN par la Commission Européenne et l'Association Européenne de Libre Echange.
Les articles de la présente norme européenne figurant dans la présente annexe satisfont aux exigences du mandat donné dans le cadre de la Directive UE « Produits de construction » (89/106/CEE).
La conformité à ces articles confère présomption d'aptitude à l'emploi des produits de construction couverts par la présente annexe pour les usages prévus et indiqués ici.
AVERTISSEMENT - D'autres exigences et d'autres Directives UE, n'affectant pas l'aptitude à l'emploi pour les usages prévus, peuvent s'appliquer aux produits de construction couverts par le domaine d'application de la présente norme européenne.
Note :
En complément des articles spécifiques relatifs aux substances dangereuses éventuellement contenus dans la présente norme, il peut exister d'autres exigences applicables aux produits couverts par son domaine d'application (par exemple transposition de réglementation européenne, réglementations nationales et dispositions administratives nationales). Pour être conforme aux dispositions de la Directive produits de construction, il est nécessaire de respecter également ces exigences, où et quand elles s'appliquent. Une base de données informative sur les dispositions européennes et nationales concernant les substances dangereuses peut être consultée sur le site EUROPA de la Construction (CREATE accessible à l'adresse http://europa.eu.int).
La présente annexe a le même domaine d'application que l'article 1 de la présente Norme. Elle établit les conditions du marquage CE des radiateurs et des convecteurs destinés à l'usage indiqué ci-dessous et présente les articles correspondants applicables (voir le Tableau ZA.1).

This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 442-1:1995; it was approved by CEN on 7 June 2003.
CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for inclusion of this
amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the Management Centre or to any CEN member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

This document (EN 442-1:1995/A1:2003) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 130 “Space
heating appliances without integral heat sources”, the secretariat of which is held by UNI.
This Amendment to the European Standard EN 442-1:1995 shall be given the status of a national standard,
either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2004, and conflicting
national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by March 2004.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annex ZA, which is an integral part of this document.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark,

Page 3, clause 2
In the list of standards, add the following:

Page 4, clause 4, 1 indent
Change "according to a relevant standard …" to "… according to a technical specification valid in the country
of destination".
As a consequence, delete footnote 1) at page 4.
Page 4, clause 4, last sentence
Replace the last sentence "The paint shall emit no odour … conditions." with the following sentence:

"The paint shall not contain any chemical substances the use of which is not allowed in building products .
The compliance with the relevant Directive shall be stated by the manufacturer of the radiator/convector."
Page 4, clause 5
Modify the title as follows: "Dimensional tolerances and pressure tightness" and modify the content list at page
2 accordingly.
Page 5, subclauses 5.1.2, 5.1.3 and 5.1.4, third paragraph
Replace "The manufacturer shall ensure the minimum wall thickness by periodic …" with "The minimum wall
thickness shall be ensured by periodic …"

Page 6, subclause 5.1.7
Add a new subclause 5.1.7:
"5.1.7 Reaction to fire
The materials from which radiators and convectors are made (steel, cast iron and aluminium) are considered

to be reaction to fire Class A1 without the need for testing , provided that any organic part of the paint or
coating is less than 1 % by mass or volume.
If any organic part of the paint or coating exceeds 1 % by mass or volume (whichever is the more onerous),
the material shall be tested and classified according to EN 13501-1 and the resulting class stated.
The percentage of organic part of the paint or coating is referred to the actual operating conditions of the
radiator and convector (i.e. to the mass of the metal and the mass of the water and to the volume obtained by
the product of the overall width, height and length of the radiator).
Only one model is to be tested to assess the reaction to fire of a type."
Renumber the existing subclause "5.1.7" to "5.1.8" and add, in the second indent: "… in terms of reaction to
fire, strength and …".
Page 6, subclause 6.1
Modify the second line as follows:
"… by EN 442-2:1996 in a laboratory, also taking into account the …"
