Bitumen and bituminous binders - Terminology
This European Standard defines terms for paving or industrial bitumen of various types and binders derived from bitumen.
This European Standard is intended to cover materials only within the scope of CEN/TC 336, i.e. only bitumens and bituminous binders. It should consequently not extend to non-petroleum "hydrocarbon" binders such as coal tar and its derivatives or to natural asphalts. However, some definitions are given for some excluded materials and related terms. The corresponding terms were introduced only when they appeared in a definition of a product or process and when their definition was found necessary for understanding or for avoiding any ambiguity.
The materials covered by this European Standard are shown in Figure 1.
NOTE Figure 1 also shows a clear distinction between materials inside and outside the scope of CEN/TC 336.

Diese Europäische Norm definiert Begriffe für Straßenbau- oder Industriebitumen verschiedener Sorten und für bitumenhaltige Bindemittel.
Diese Norm soll nur Materialien innerhalb des Bereichs des CEN/TC 336 umfassen, z. B. nur Bitumen und bitumenhaltige Bindemittel. Folglich sollte sie nicht auf „Kohlenwasserstoff“-Bindemittel, die nicht auf Mineralöl basieren wie Steinkohlenteer und seine Derivate oder Naturasphalte ausgedehnt werden. Jedoch werden einige Begriffe für einige ausgeschlossene Materialien und verwandte Begriffe angegeben. Die entsprechenden Begriffe wurden nur eingeführt, wenn sie in der Benennung eines Produkts oder Prozesses erschienen und wenn ihre Definition zum Verständnis oder zur Vermeidung von Mehrdeutigkeiten als notwendig erachtet wurde.

La présente Norme européenne donne les définitions des termes utilisés pour les bitumes à usages routiers ou industriels et les liants dérivés du bitume.
Cette Norme européenne n'est censée aborder que les matériaux couverts par le domaine d'application du CEN/TC 336, c'est-à-dire les bitumes et liants bitumineux. Par conséquent elle n’est pas censée s’appliquer aux liants « hydrocarbonés » non pétroliers, tels que le goudron et ses dérivés, et les asphaltes naturels. Néanmoins, certaines définitions sont données pour des matériaux qui ne sont pas inclus dans le domaine d'application. Les termes correspondants ont été introduits seulement lorsqu'ils apparaissent dans la définition d'un produit ou d'un procédé ou lorsque leur définition a paru nécessaire pour la compréhension ou pour éviter toute ambiguïté.

EN 12597 določa pogoje za tlakovanje ali industrijske bitumne različnih vrst ter bitumenska veziva. Ta evropski standard je namenjen obravnavanju materialov, ki sodijo na področje uporabe CEN/TC 336, tj. samo bitumnov in bitumenskih veziv. Zato ne obravnava nenaftnih ogljikovodikovih veziv, kot so premogov katran in njegovi derivati ali naravni asfalt. Kljub temu so vključene definicije za nekatere izključene materiale in z njimi povezane izraze.
