Standard reference: EN 61076-2-109:2014 (CLC)
This European adoption of IEC 61076-2-109 specifies product requirements for circular connectors with M12 × 1 screw‑locking designed for data transmission frequencies up to 500 MHz. It covers connector forms with IP65/IP67 protection, available as fixed or free (panel and cable) versions and as rewireable or non‑rewireable assemblies. Two non‑interchangeable contact arrangements - type X and type H - are defined; male contacts have a diameter of 0.6 mm. Typical applications include vision systems and data acquisition.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Mechanical and dimensional requirements
- Interface dimensions for connector types X and H, gauges and polarizing methods.
- Ratings and electrical characteristics
- Intended for data up to 500 MHz; rated voltages, insulation, contact resistance and current‑carrying capacity are specified.
- Environmental and mechanical performance
- IP65/IP67 degree of protection, climatic category, vibration and shock endurance, insertion/withdrawal forces, contact retention.
- Safety and marking
- Marking, safety aspects and insulation coordination requirements.
- Termination and contact details
- Fixed/free variants, rewireable options and recommended termination methods; male contact Ø 0.6 mm.
- Test requirements
- Comprehensive test schedule including climatic, mechanical, electrical, chemical resistance and signal integrity tests (referencing IEC 60512‑29‑100 for up to 500 MHz signal tests).
Practical applications
This standard is intended for:
- Industrial Ethernet, machine vision and sensor networks requiring robust, high‑frequency data links.
- Data acquisition systems and embedded controllers where durable, weather‑resistant circular connectors are needed.
- Environments demanding IP65/IP67 protection combined with controlled signal integrity up to 500 MHz.
Who should use this standard
- Connector and cable manufacturers (product design and compliance)
- OEMs and system integrators specifying M12 circular connectors for data transmission
- Test laboratories and certification bodies performing compliance verification
- Purchasing and procurement teams writing technical specifications

1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any

transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any

Part 2-109: Circular connectors – Detail specification for
connectors with M 12 x 1 screw-locking, for data
transmission frequencies up to 500 MHz
1 Scope
This part of IEC 61076 describes circular connectors with IP 65/IP 67 degree of protection
and suitable for data transmission with frequencies up to 500 MHz. Applications include, but
are not limited to, vision systems and data acquisition. These connectors consist of fixed and
free connectors, either rewireable or non-rewireable, with M12 x 1 screw-locking. Male
connectors have round contacts ∅ 0,6 mm.
This standard covers two different types of connectors, denominated X and H, with different
contact arrangement, not mutually interchangeable, but with common ratings and purposes.
