Ta del standarda IEC 62196 se uporablja za vtiče, vtičnice, konektorje, uvodnice in kabelske sestave na električnih vozilih (EV) (v nadaljnjem besedilu: »priključki«), namenjene za uporabo v sistemih za kabelsko napajanje, ki vključujejo krmilno sredstvo z nazivno obratovalno napetostjo največ – 690 V izmenične napetosti, 50–60 Hz pri nazivnem toku manj kot 250 A – 1500 V enosmerne napetosti pri nazivnem toku manj kot 400 A. Ti priključki in kabelski sestavi so namenjeni za uporabo v tokokrogih, določenih v standardu IEC 61851-1:2010, ki delujejo pri različnih napetostih in frekvencah in lahko vključujejo malo napetost (ELV) in komunikacijske signale. Priključki, ki jih zajema ta standard, so namenjeni za uporabo na vozilih, ki izpolnjujejo zahteve iz točke 7.2.3.1 standarda IEC 61851-1:2010.
