Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-2: Generic standards - Immunity for industrial environments
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-2: Generic standards - Immunity for industrial environments
Applies to electrical and electronic apparatus intended for use in industrial environments, for which no dedicated product or product-family immunity standard exists. Immunity requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are covered, in relation to continuous and transient, conducted and radiated disturbances, including electrostatic discharges. Test requirements are specified for each port considered. Apparatus intended to be used in industrial locations are characterized by the existence of one or more of the following: - a power network exists powered by a high or medium voltage power transformer dedicated for the supply of an installation feeding manufacturing or similar plant; - industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) apparatus; - heavy inductive or capacitive loads are frequently switched; - currents and associated magnetic fields are high.

Interpretation Sheet 1
EN 61000-6-2:2001
English version
___________
Foreword
This Interpretation Sheet to the European Standard EN 61000-6-2:2001 was prepared by the Interpretation
Panel of the Technical Committee CENELEC TC 210, Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The text of the
draft was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure and was approved by CENELEC on 2005-07-16.
__________
Clause 8 Immunity test requirements
The last two points of this clause state:
“The description of the test, the test generator, the test methods, and the test set-up to be used are given in
the basic standards which are referred to in the following tables.
The contents of these basic standards are not repeated here; however, modifications or additional
information needed for the practical application of the tests are given in this standard.”
Question:
This implies the user must refer to the Basic standard for instructions on the application of the particular
phenomenon. How should the user proceed and how many tests should be carried out ?
Interpretation:
(a) In the case of Table 1, 1.3 Electrostatic discharge, the Basic standard is EN 61000-4-2:1995 with
Amendments A1:1998 and A2:2001.
In 8.3.1 of EN 61000-4-2 there is an instruction “The test voltage shall be increased from the minimum
to the selected test level, in order to determine any threshold of failure.” T
