Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-69: Particular requirements for wet and dry vacuum cleaners, including power brush, for commercial use
IEC 60335-2-69:2021 deals with the safety of electrical motor-operated vacuum cleaners, including back-pack vacuum cleaners, and dust extractors, for wet suction, dry suction, or wet and dry suction, intended for commercial indoor or outdoor use with or without attachments. These machines may be provided with a blowing or inflating function. The inner diameter of the dust container connector to the suction hose shall not exceed 200 mm.
It also deals with the safety of centrally-sited vacuum cleaners, excluding the installation of the system.
Attention is drawn to the fact that additional requirements on the safe installation of centrally-sited vacuum cleaners are not addressed by this standard but need to be taken into account.
This standard applies to machines for commercial use. The following list, although not comprehensive, gives an indication of locations that are included in the scope:
– public use areas such as hotels, schools, hospitals;
– industrial locations, for example factories and manufacturing shops;
– retail outlets, for example shops and supermarkets;
– business premises, for example offices and banks;
– all uses other than normal housekeeping purposes.
These machines are not equipped with a traction drive. The following power systems are covered:
– mains powered motors up to a rated voltage of 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances,
– battery-operated motors.
Machines for the same intended function but equipped with a traction drive are covered by IEC 60335-2-72.
This standard also applies to machines handling hazardous dust, such as asbestos, and combustible dust in other than an explosive dust atmosphere.
Additional requirements for machines handling hazardous dust are given in normative Annex AA. Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements on hazardous substances might apply.
Radioactive substances are not covered by definition of hazardous dust for the purposes of this standard.
This standard does not apply to
– vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances for household use (IEC 60335-2-2);
– floor treatment machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-67, IEC 60335-2-72);
– spray extraction machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-68);
IEC 60335-2-67 and IEC 60335-2-68 cover only machines without traction drive.
– hand-held mains-operated electrical garden blowers, vacuums and blower vacuums (IEC 60335-2-100);
– hand-held and transportable motor-operated electric tools (IEC 60745 series, IEC 61029 series, IEC 62841 series);
– appliances for medical purposes (IEC 60601-1);
– machines designed for use in corrosive environments;
– machines designed for picking up liquids with a flash point below 55 °C;
– machines designed for use in explosive environments (dust, vapour or gas), except those designed for use in zone 22;
– machines intended to vacuum ash from fireplaces, chimneys, ovens, ashtrays and similar places of ash accumulation.
This sixth edition cancels and replaces the fifth edition published in 2016. It constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
– editorial and technical alignment with IEC 60335-1:2020;
– addition of requirements for pick-up of combustible dusts in other than an explosive dust atmosphere.
This part 2 is only to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of IEC 60335-1 and its amendments. It was established on the basis of the sixth edition (2020) of that standard.

L'IEC 60335-2-69:2021 traite de la sécurité des aspirateurs électriques à moteur, y compris les aspirateurs dorsaux, et des extracteurs de poussière, pour aspiration en présence d'eau, aspiration à sec, ou aspiration à sec et en présence d'eau, destinés à un usage commercial en intérieur ou en extérieur, avec ou sans accessoires. Ces machines peuvent être fournies avec une fonction de soufflage ou de gonflage. Le diamètre intérieur du connecteur du compartiment à poussière du tuyau d'aspiration ne doit pas dépasser 200 mm.
Elle traite également de la sécurité des aspirateurs à unité centrale d'aspiration, hors installation du système.

La présente norme s'applique aux machines à usage commercial. La liste suivante, bien que non exhaustive, donne une indication des endroits inclus dans le domaine d'application:
– zones ouvertes au public, telles que les hôtels, les écoles, les hôpitaux;
– sites industriels, par exemple usines et ateliers de fabrication;
– commerces de détail, par exemple magasins et supermarchés;
– locaux commerciaux, par exemples bureaux et banques;
– tous les usages autres que l'utilisation domestique normale.
Ces machines ne sont pas équipées d'une commande de dispositif de déplacement. Les systèmes d'alimentation suivants sont couverts:
– moteurs alimentés par le réseau de tension assignée inférieure ou égale à 250 V pour les appareils monophasés et à 480 V pour les autres appareils,
– moteurs alimentés par batteries.
Les machines conçues pour la même fonction prévue, mais équipées d'une commande de dispositif de déplacement sont couvertes par l'IEC 60335-2-72.
La présente norme s'applique en outre aux machines qui manipulent de la poussière dangereuse, telle que de l'amiante, et de la poussière combustible dans une atmosphère autre qu'une atmosphère explosive de poussière.
Des exigences supplémentaires relatives aux machines qui manipulent de la poussière dangereuse sont données à l'Annexe AA normative. L'attention est attirée sur le fait que, dans de nombreux pays, des exigences supplémentaires relatives aux substances dangereuses peuvent s'appliquer.
Les substances radioactives ne sont pas couvertes par la définition de la poussière dangereuse pour les besoins de la présente norme.

L'IEC 60335-2-67 et l'IEC 60335-2-68 couvrent uniquement les machines sans commande de dispositif de déplacement.
– aux souffleurs, aspirateurs et aspiro-souffleurs électroportatifs pour jardins, alimentés par le secteur (IEC 60335-2-100);
– aux outils électroportatifs et portables à moteur (série IEC 60745, série IEC 61029, série IEC 62841);
– aux appareils destinés à des usages médicaux (IEC 60601-1);
– aux machines conçues pour être utilisées dans des environnements corrosifs;
– aux machines destinées à aspirer des liquides dont le point d'éclair est inférieur à 55 °C;
– aux machines conçues pour être utilisées dans des environnements explosifs (poussière, vapeur ou gaz), à l'exception de celles conçues pour être utilisées en zone 22;
– aux machines destinées à aspirer les cendres des foyers, cheminées, fours, cendriers et autres lieux d'accumulation de cendres.
Cette sixième édition annule et remplace la cinquième édition parue en 2016. Elle constitue une révision technique.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC

INTRODUCTION
It has been assumed in the drafting of this International Standard that the execution of its
provisions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced persons.
This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such
as electrical, mechanical, thermal, fire and radiation of appliances when operated as in
normal use taking into account the manufacturer's instructions. It also covers abnormal
situations that can be expected in practice and takes into account the way in which
electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances.
This standard takes into account the requirements of IEC 60364 as far as possible so that
there is compatibility with the wiring rules when the appliance is connected to the supply
mains. However, national wiring rules may differ.
If an appliance within the scope of this standard also incorporates functions that are covered
by another part 2 of IEC 60335, the relevant part 2 is applied to each function separately, as
far as is reasonable. If applicable, the influence of one function on the other is taken into
account.
When a part 2 standard does not include additional requirements to cover hazards dealt with
in Part 1, Part 1 applies.
NOTE 1 This means that the technical committees responsible for the part 2 standards have determined that it is
not necessary to specify particular requirements for the appliance in question over and above the general
requirements.
This standard is a product family standard dealing with the safety of appliances and takes
precedence over horizontal and generic standards covering the same subject.
NOTE 2 Horizontal and generic standards covering a hazard are not applicable since they have been taken into
consideration when developing the general and particular requirements for the IEC 60335 series of standards. For
example, in the case of temperature requirements for surfaces on many appliances, generic standards, such as
ISO 13732-1 for hot surfaces, are not applicable in addition to Part 1 or part 2 standards.
An appliance that complies with the text of this standard will not necessarily be considered to
comply with the safety principles of the standard if, when examined and tested, it is found to
have other features that impair the level of safety covered by these requirements.
An appliance employing materials or having forms of construction differing from those detailed
in the requirements of this standard may be examined and tested according to the intent of
the requirements and, if found to be substantially equivalent, may be considered to comply
with the standard.

This part of IEC 60335 deals with the safety of electrical motor-operated vacuum cleaners,
including back-pack vacuum cleaners, and dust extractors, for wet suction, dry suction, or
wet and dry suction, intended for commercial indoor or outdoor use with or without
attachments. These machines may be provided with a blowing or inflating function. The
inner diameter of the dust container connector to the suction hose shall not exceed 200 mm.
It also deals with the safety of centrally-sited vacuum cleaners, excluding the installation of
the system.
NOTE 101 Attention is drawn to the fact that additional requirements on the safe installation of centrally-sited
vacuum cleaners are not addressed by this standard but need to be taken into account.
NOTE 102 This standard applies to machines for commercial use. The following list, although not
comprehensive, gives an indication of locations that are included in the scope:
– public use areas such as hotels, schools, hospitals;
– industrial locations, for example factories and manufacturing shops;
– retail outlets, for example shops and supermarkets;
– business premises, for example offices and banks;
– all uses other than normal housekeeping purposes.
These machines are not equipped with a traction drive. The following power systems are
covered:
– mains powered motors up to a rated voltage of 250 V for single-phase appliances and
480 V for other appliances,
– battery-operated motors.
NOTE 103 Machines for the same intended function but equipped with a traction drive are covered by
IEC 60335-2-72.
This standard also applies to machines handling hazardous dust, such as asbestos, and
combustible dust in other than an explosive dust atmosphere.
NOTE 104 Additional requirements for machines handling hazardous dust are given in normative Annex AA.
Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements on hazardous substances might apply.
NOTE 105 Radioactive substances are not covered by definition of hazardous dust for the purposes of this
standard.
This standard does not apply to
– vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances for household use
(IEC 60335-2-2);
– floor treatment machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-67, IEC 60335-2-72);
– spray extraction machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-68);
NOTE 106 IEC 60335-2-67 and IEC 60335-2-68 cover only machines without traction drive.

– hand-held mains-operated electrical garden blowers, vacuums and blower vacuums
(IEC 60335-2-100);
– hand-held and transportable motor-operated electric tools (IEC 60745 series, IEC 61029
series, IEC 62841 series);
– appliances for medical purposes (IEC 60601-1);
– machines designed for use in corrosive environments;
– machines designed for picking up liquids with a flash point below 55 °C;
– machines designed for use in explosive environments (dust, vapour or gas), except those
designed for use in zone 22;
– machines intended to vacuum ash from fireplaces, chimneys, ovens, ashtrays and similar
places of ash accumulation.
NOTE 107 The flash point temperature limit can vary in different countries. National regulations will need to be
taken into account.
