SC 2, Sampling and testing methods for powders (including powders for hardmetals), in collaboration
with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) Technical Committee CEN/SS M11, Powder
metallurgy, in accordance with the Agreement on technical cooperation between ISO and CEN (Vienna
Agreement).
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 3995:1985), which has been technically
revised.
The main changes are as follows:
— allowing automated compacting sequence in 7.4;
— adding second compacting pressure option and tighter tolerance in 7.5;
— mandatory reporting of lubrication technique and lubrication details in Clause 9;
— replacing stearic acid by synthetic wax;
— removing the use of solvent.

Cette troisième édition annule et remplace la deuxième édition (ISO 3995:1985), qui a fait l'objet d'une
révision technique.
Les principales modifications sont les suivantes:
— autorisation d’une séquence de compression automatisée en 7.4;
— ajout d’une seconde pression de compression possible ainsi que d’une tolérance plus stricte en 7.5;
— obligation d’indiquer la technique de lubrification et les données détaillées relatives à celle-ci
à l’Article 9;
— remplacement de l’acide stéarique par de la cire synthétique;
— suppression de l’utilisation de solvant.

4 Principe
Le principe consiste à soumettre un comprimé obtenu par compression d’une poudre métallique à une
charge transversale croissant de manière uniforme, dans des conditions contrôlées, jusqu'à la rupture.
La résistance à la rupture transversale ou, comme dénommée ici, la résistance à cru, est déterminée
comme étant la contrainte, calculée à partir de la formule conventionnelle de la flexion, nécessaire pour
rompre le comprimé assimilé à un simple barreau reposant sur deux appuis à ses extrémités et soumis
à une force appliquée en son milieu.

This document was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 119, Powder metallurgy, Subcommittee
SC 2, Sampling and testing methods for powders (including powders for hardmetals), in collaboration with
the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) Technical Committee CEN/SS M11, Powder
metallurgy, in accordance with the Agreement on technical cooperation between ISO and CEN (Vienna
Agreement).
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 3995:1985)), which has been technically
revised.
The main changes are as follows:
— allowing automated compacting sequence in 7.4;
— adding second compacting pressure option and tighter tolerance in 7.5;
— mandatory reporting of lubrication technique and lubrication details in Clause 9;
— replacing stearic acid by synthetic wax;
