ISO 25649-2:2024 - Floating leisure articles for use on and in the water: Part 2 - Consumer information defines the consumer-facing information and labelling requirements for classified floating leisure articles (e.g., inflatables, floats, water toys) covered by ISO 25649-1:2024. Introduction
The safe use of floating leisure articles depends not only on the safety and reliability of the products in
use but also on the adequate knowledge of the consumer/user about the risks related to water activities.
The right information when selecting floating leisure articles is a further important aspect, as well as
information on the correct device to use, performance that can be expected from the product or limitations
to the use, and indications on the adequate behaviour on the water.
In particular, children need special supervision and care. Even if the products dealt with in the ISO 25649
series are only intended for use by swimmers, that does not at all eliminate the well-known risks that cannot
technically be avoided because they depend more on behaviour than on performance.
This document deals therefore in particular with all aspects to inform the consumer/user before and during
use about major risks and appropriate behaviour.

1 Scope
This document specifies consumer information for classified floating leisure articles for use on and in water
according to ISO 25649-1:2024.

4 Consumer information
4.1 General
Floating leisure articles shall be accompanied by adequate product information.
This information shall serve the purpose of:
— information before buying (point of sale information);
— information for preparing the product for use;
— information relating to the use of the product;
— information concerning maintenance, storage and repair.

4.2 Consumer information at point of sale (information before buying)
4.2.1 General
Information at point of sale shall be given on the packaging or in a way that it can be noticed by the
consumer, e.g. through a transparent cover. It shall include all data relevant for matching consumer needs
with the performance characteristics of the product, in particular those related to the approximate shape
(appearance) and dimensions of the product, user specifications (age groups, body weight, etc. if applicable),
load capacity, place of use, performance and relevant safety information.
The supplementary safety information symbol related to fatal risks shall be presented in a combination
of this symbol and explanatory text. This applies for the symbol “No protection against drowning” (see
Figure 1). The order of supplementary safety information symbols shall follow a coherent approach following
the logic of buying and use.
The supplementary safety information symbols and the general safety signs shall be grouped together as
specified in 6.3 and in Annex A.
4.2.2 General information
The general information that shall be provided is the following:
— name and address of supplier;
— type of device, designation;
— picture or diagram showing the approximate shape of the inflatable and its main dimensions;
— a reference to this document.
4.3 Information related to preparation for use
Information for installation and preparing for use shall be given in the instructions for use. In cases of simple
design and use, it may be printed on the product.
4.4 Information related to maintenance, repair and storage
Information on maintenance, repair and storage shall be given in the instructions for use.
5 Requirements related to printing
5.1 General
Printing containing information shall be in contrast to its background. See Clause 6 for requirements on
supplementary safety information symbols and general safety signs.
5.2 Durability of printings on the product
Printings of all information on the product shall conform to the durability requirements given in
ISO 25649-1:2024, Clause 7.
5.3 Language and letter size for plain text information on the product
5.3.1 Requirements
Markings shall be printed or embossed in upper case, letter size not less than 3 mm in height. Colour may
vary but shall always be in contrast or relief to the background and be legible.

Plain text information shall be given in the language of the country of sale.
The word “WARNING” can be replaced by ISO 7010-W001 (see Figure 1).
5.3.2 Testing
Verification shall be by inspection.

6.1 General
General safety signs, specific safety signs and supplementary safety information symbols on the product or
in the accompanying information material shall be in accordance with the layout as presented in Figure 1 to
Figure 37.

6.4 Supplementary safety information symbols
6.4.1 Supplementary safety information symbols related to warnings
Supplementary safety information symbols shall be used in combination with general safety signs, to
substitute the text and to inform the user about all relevant information related to safety, use, sizing, etc.
The supplementary safety information symbol related to fatal risks shall be headed by general warning sign
ISO 7010-W001 or explanatory text.
For allocation of the supplementary information symbols, see also 6.7.

Introduction
L’utilisation en toute sécurité des articles de loisirs flottants dépend non seulement de la sécurité et de la
fiabilité des produits utilisés, mais aussi d’une connaissance adéquate des risques associés aux activités
nautiques par le consommateur/utilisateur. Il est essentiel de disposer d’informations précises lors de la
sélection d’articles de loisirs gonflables, tout comme d’informations relatives à l’article correct à utiliser, aux
performances auxquelles on peut s’attendre du produit ou aux limites associées à son utilisation, ainsi que
des indications sur le comportement adéquat sur l’eau.
Les enfants en particulier exigent une surveillance et un soin particuliers. Même si les produits couverts
par la série de normes ISO 25649 ne sont destinés à être utilisés que par des nageurs, cela ne supprime pas
tous les risques bien connus qui ne peuvent pas techniquement être évités du fait qu’ils dépendent plus du
comportement que des performances.
Le présent document couvre donc en particulier tous les aspects liés à l’information du consommateur/
utilisateur avant et pendant l’utilisation sur les risques majeurs et le comportement approprié.

4 Informations aux consommateurs
4.1 Généralités
Les articles de loisirs flottants doivent être accompagnés d’informations adaptées relatives aux produits.
Ces informations doivent avoir pour objectif :
— d’informer avant l’achat (information sur le point de vente) ;
— d’informer sur la préparation du produit en vue de l’utilisation ;
— d’informer sur l’utilisation du produit ;
— d’informer sur l’entretien, le stockage et la réparation.

4.2 Information du consommateur sur le point de vente (informations avant l’achat)
4.2.1 Généralités
Les informations fournies sur le point de vente doivent être indiquées sur l’emballage ou de manière à
pouvoir être remarquées par le consommateur, par exemple sous une couverture transparente. Elles doivent
inclure toutes les données pertinentes permettant de répondre aux besoins des consommateurs relatifs
aux caractéristiques de performance du produit, en particulier ceux liés à la forme (aspect) globale et aux
dimensions du produit, aux spécifications de l’utilisateur (groupes d’âge, poids, etc., le cas échéant), à la
capacité de charge, à la zone d’utilisation, aux performances et aux informations de sécurité pertinentes.
Le symbole d’information de sécurité supplémentaire associé à un risque fatal doit se présenter sous la
forme d’une combinaison de ce symbole et d’un texte explicatif. Cette exigence s’applique au symbole « Ne
protège pas de la noyade » (voir la Figure 1). L’ordre des symboles d’information de sécurité supplémentaires
doit correspondre à une approche cohérente calquée sur la logique d’achat et d’utilisation.
Les symboles d’information de sécurité supplémentaires et les signaux de sécurité générale doivent être

Les informations générales qui doivent être fournies sont les suivantes :
— nom et adresse du fournisseur ;
— type d’article, désignation ;

4.3 Informations relatives à la préparation avant utilisation
Les informations relatives à l’installation et à la préparation avant utilisation doivent être fournies dans la
notice d’utilisation. En cas de conception et d’usage simples, elles peuvent être imprimées sur le produit.
4.4 Informations relatives à l’entretien, à la réparation et au stockage
Les informations relatives à l’entretien, à la réparation et au stockage doivent être fournies dans la notice
d’utilisation.
5 Exigences relatives à l’impression
5.1 Généralités
Toute impression contenant des informations doit contraster par rapport au fond. Voir l’Article 6 pour
connaître les exigences relatives aux symboles d’information de sécurité supplémentaires et aux signaux de
sécurité générale.
5.2 Durabilité des impressions sur le produit
Toutes les informations imprimées sur le produit doivent satisfaire aux exigences de durabilité spécifiées
dans l’Article 7 de l’ISO 25649-1:2024.

5.3 Langue et taille des caractères pour les informations textuelles en clair apposées sur
le produit
5.3.1 Exigences
Les marquages doivent être imprimés ou marqués en relief en lettres majuscules d’au moins 3 mm de haut.
La couleur peut varier, mais doit toujours être en contraste ou en relief par rapport au fond et être lisible.
Les informations en clair doivent être fournies dans la langue du pays de vente.
Le mot « AVERTISSEMENT » peut être remplacé par le pictogramme ISO 7010-W001 (voir la Figure 1).
5.3.2 Essais
La vérification doit prendre la forme d’un examen.
6 Marquages de sécurité du produit
6.1 Généralités
La présentation des signaux de sécurité générale, des signaux de sécurité spécifique et des symboles
d’information de sécurité supplémentaires apposés sur le produit ou figurant dans la notice d’information
fournie avec le produit doit correspondre à celle présentée de la Figure 1 à la Figure 37.

6.4 Symboles d’information de sécurité supplémentaires
6.4.1 Symboles d’information de sécurité supplémentaires relatifs à des avertissements
Des symboles d’information de sécurité supplémentaires doivent être utilisés en combinaison avec des
signaux de sécurité générale, pour remplacer le texte et communiquer à l’utilisateur toutes les informations
pertinentes relatives à la sécurité, à l’utilisation, au dimensionnement, etc.
Le symbole d’information de sécurité supplémentaire associé à un risque fatal doit être précédé du signal
d’avertissement général ISO 7010-W001 ou d’un texte explicatif.
Pour l’attribution de symboles d’information supplémentaires, voir également 6.7.
