    3. Transfer dry ash to a beaker, treat with hydrochloric acid, warm to ~75 °C, dilute and allow solids to settle.
    4. Decant acid, wash, and filter the stirred mixture through the 40 µm nylon sieve to remove particles below 40 µm.
    5. Rinse collected sand into a pre-dried crucible, dry at 103 ± 2 °C and weigh.
  • Result expression: Sand content is reported as a percentage of the dry mass of the board (mass of collected sand divided by mass of conditioned board × 100).
