BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 74, Image Produced by Camera Aperture and
Projected Image Area for 8 mm Films, was drawn up by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 36, Cinematography, the Secretariat of which is held by the American
Standards Association, Inc. (ASA).
In April 1952, the Technical Committee Secretariat proposed the study
of the question, and that the American standards 222.19-1950 (image produced
by camera aperture) and 222.20-1950 (projected image area) be taken as a basis
for discussion.
ISO/TC 36 considered the proposal at its first meeting, which was held
in New York in June 1952. It entrusted the Secretariat with the drawing up of
a draft proposal based on each of the two American standards, taking into account
certain improvements decided upon at the meeting.
The two draft proposals were submitted in September 1954 to the members
of the Technical Committee and adopted as Draft IS0 Recommendations, no
objection having been raised.
In May 1955, the two Draft IS0 Recommendations were submitted to all
the IS0 Member Bodies, but Technical Committee ISO/TC 36 decided at its
second meeting, held in Stockholm in June 1955, to introduce some improve-

ments.
In March 1957, the Drafts thus amended were submitted to all the IS0
Member Bodies as second Draft IS0 Recommendations and were approved by
the following 19 (out of a total of 38) Member Bodies:

No Member Body opposed approval of the Drafts.
The two Draft IS0 Recommendations were then submitted by correspond-
ence to the IS0 Council, which decided, in December 1958, to accept them as
IS0 RECOMMENDATIONS. On the proposal of the General Secretariat, it
was decided to group the two IS0 Recommendations into one.
These Member Bodies stated that they had no objection to the Drafts being approved.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation IS0 /R 74, Image enregistrée dans la camdra et champ
d’image projetée pour films de 8 mm, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique
IS0 /TC 36, Cinématographie, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par I’American
Standards Association, Inc. (ASA).
En avril 1952, le Secrétariat du Comité Technique proposa de mettre la
question A I’étude et de prendre comme base de discussion les normes améri-
caines 222.19-1950 (image enregistrke dans la caméra) et 222.20-1950 (champ
d’image projetée).

ISO/TC 36 examina la proposition du Secrétariat au cours de sa première
réunion, tenue A New-York, en juin 1952. I1 chargea le Secrétariat d’établir un
avant-projet basé sur chacune des deux normes américaines, sous réserve des
amendements décidés en cours de réunion.
Les deux avant-projets furent soumis en septembre 1954 aux membres du
Comité Technique et adoptés comme Projets de Recommandations ISO, aucune
objection n’ayant été formulée.
Ces deux Projets de Recommandations IS0 furent soumis en mai 1955 A
tous les Comités Membres de 1’ISO. Mais, au cours de sa deuxième réunion,
tenue A Stockholm, en juin 1955, le Comité Technique ISO/TC 36 décida de leur
apporter quelques modifications.
Les Projets ainsi modifiés furent soumis en mars 1957 A tous les Comités
Membres de I’ISO en tant que deuxièmes Projets de Recommandations IS0 et
furent approuvés par les Comités Membres suivants (au nombre de 19 sur un
total de 38) :

Les deux projets de Recommandations IS0 furent alors soumis par cor-
respondance au Conseil de 1’ISO qui décida, en décembre 1958, de les accepter
comme des RECOMMANDATIONS ISO. Sur la proposition du Secrétariat Géné-
ral, il fut décidé de grouper les deux Recommandations IS0 en une seule.
