BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 872, Plastics - Determination of ash of unplasticized cellulose
acetate, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61, Plastics, the Secretariat of which is held
by the United States of America Standards Institute (USASI).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1964 and led, in 1965, to the
adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In March 1967, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1003) was circulated to all the IS0
Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature,
by the following Member Bodies :

OF UNPLASTICIZED CELLULOSE ACETATE
1. SCOPE
1.1 This IS0 Recommendation describes a method for determining the ash of unplasticized cellulose
acetate. The ash is formed from the inorganic matter which is present in the product.
The method is intended for cellulose acetate without plasticizers and free of additives, fillers,

dyes or other materials which may affect the test.
When plasticizers, additives, fillers or dyes which may affect the test are present, they should

be separated by a method agreed between the contracting parties.
2. PRINCIPLE OF THE METHOD
A suitable quantity of cellulose acetate is ignited and then ashed in a muffle furnace at 600 OC. The
residue obtained is weighed.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 872, Matières plastiques - Determination de la teneur en cendres
de l'acétate de cellulose non plastifié, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 61, Matières
plastiques, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le United States of America Standards Institute (USAS).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique en 1964 et
aboutirent, en 1965, à l'adoption d'un Projet de Recommandation ISO.

En mars 1967, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (No 1003) fut soumis à l'enquête de tous les
Comités Membres de I'ISO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d'ordre rédaction-
nel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

DE L‘ACÉTATE DE CELLULOSE NON PLASTIFIÉ
1. OBJET
1.1 La présente Recommandation IS0 décrit une méthode de détermination de la teneur en cendres
de l’acétate de cellulose non plastifié. Les cendres proviennent des matières inorganiques
présentes dans le produit.
1.2 La méthode s’applique aux acétates de cellulose ne contenant pas de plastifiants, adjuvants,
charges, colorants ou autres matériaux pouvant altérer les résultats de l’essai.
1.3 Si des plastifiants, adjuvants, charges, ou colorants pouvant altérer les résultats de l’essai sont
présents, ils doivent être éliminés par un procédé ayant fait l’objet d’un accord entre les parties
contractantes.
