BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 898/III, Mechanical properties of fasteners - Marking of bolts, screws, studs and
nuts, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 2, Bolts, nufs and accessories, the Secretariat of which is
held by the Deutscher Normenausschuss (DNA).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee led, in 1966, to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recom-
mendation.
In September 1967, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1298) was circulated to all the 1SO Member Bodies
for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by the following Member
Bodies :

1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation relates to the marking of hexagon bolts and screws, hexagon socket head cap
screws, studs and hexagon nuts which are described in IS0 Recommendations R 898/I, Mechanical properties
of fasteners - Bolts, screws and studs, and R 898111, Mechanical properties of fasteners - Nuts.
The same marking system may be used for other types of bolts, screws and nuts with property classes according
to IS0 Recommendations R 89811 and R 898/II, e.g. slotted head screws, by agreement between customer and
supplier:

boulons, vis, goujons et écrous, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 2, Boulons, écrous et accessoires,
dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le Deutscher Normenausschuss (DNA).
Les travaux relatifs i cette question, entrepris par le Comité Technique, aboutirent, en 1966, a l’adoption
d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En septembre 1967, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 1298) fut soumis a l’enquête de tous les
Comités Membres de I’ISO. 11 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par les
Comités Membres suivants :

MARQUAGE DES BOULONS, VIS, GOUJONS ET ÉCROUS
1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 concerne le marquage des boulons et vis à tête hexagonale, des vis à tête
cylindrique à six pans creux, des goujons et des écrous hexagonaux dont les caractéristiques sont fmées dans
les Recommandations ISO/R 898/I, Caractéristiques mécaniques des éléments de fixation - Boulons, vis et
goujons, et ISO/R 898/II, Caractéristiques mécaniques des éléments de fkation - Ecrous.
Le marquage peut être étendu à d’autres types de boulons, vis et écrous des classes de qualité telles qu’elles
sont prévues dans les Recommandations ISO/R 898/I et ISO/R 898/II, par exemple des vis à tête fendue,
après accord entre client et fournisseur.
