The standard ensures stabilizing devices are compatible with ISO 3853‑compliant towing devices and do not adversely affect coupling, braking or towbar strength and operation.   • Must not impair trailer braking or cause excessive wear on towing elements.
• Test bench requirements:
  • Simulated oscillation frequencies: 0.6 ± 0.2 Hz. Amplitudes: ±5° (articulation/pitch), ±3° (roll).
  • Wear limits: damping moment reduction must not exceed 15% during specified cycle counts (measured at defined intervals: e.g., articulation after 250 and 50 000 cycles; pitch after 1 000 and 25 000; roll after 1 000 and 10 000).
• Instructions & marking: Manufacturers must supply fitting, use and maintenance instructions and permanently mark devices with “ISO 11555‑1”, device designation, maker, type and permitted application (e.g., min/max trailer mass).

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO

Introduction
Additional forces from a towing device cannot be allowed to impart forces onto the coupling ball such that the
lifetime of the device could be reduced. The placement and manner in which the stabilizing device is to be
attached to the towing device is an important parameter, which is the reason why stabilizing devices can only be
permitted if the coupling is approved by the manufacturer for use with such devices.
Conformity with this part of ISO 11555 will ensure that, when in use, a stabilizing device will not adversely affect
the permitted loading and operation of tow bar, coupling or braking devices.

This part of ISO 11555 specifies requirements for integrated stabilizers for central-axle (single-axle or tandem-

Introduction
Les efforts additionnels provenant d'un dispositif d’attelage ne devraient pas être en mesure de transmettre des
efforts sur la boule d'attelage de façon à réduire la durée de vie du dispositif. L'endroit et la façon dont le
dispositif stabilisateur est fixé au dispositif d'attelage constituent des paramètres importants. C'est pourquoi, les
dispositifs stabilisateurs sont autorisés uniquement si l'attelage est approuvé par le fabricant pour utilisation
avec de tels dispositifs.
La conformité avec la présente partie de l'ISO 11555 assure que le dispositif stabilisateur en service n'affecte
pas de façon défavorable ni la charge admise, ni le fonctionnement de la barre d'attelage et des dispositifs
d'attelage et de freinage.
