1.1 Product definition
This specification contains the dimensional, optical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements of a fully installed splice closure for use in optical distribution networks at ground level (category G) in order for it to be categorised as an EN standard product. This type of sealed closure is intended for easy and/or frequent opening and closing in FTTH distribution and drop cable networks.
NOTE The sealing performance requirements and test severities of these closures are selected to obtain an IP 67 intrusion protection performance as defined in EN 60529.
1.2 Operating environment
The tests selected combined with the severity and duration are representative of an outside plant for ground level environment defined by EN 61753-1, category G: ground level. This corresponds with:
- operating temperature range: -40 °C to +65 °C;
- direct exposure to non weather protected outside plant conditions;
- deployment at ground level up to 3 metres above ground level;
- additionally to the category G environment, a deployment till 1 metre below ground level is added. Direct buried applications are allowed, however additional protection will be required when the locations are intended for passage of cars or other heavy vehicles.
1.3 Reliability
Whilst the anticipated service life expectancy of the product in this environment is 20 years, compliance with this specification does not guarantee the reliability of the product. This should be predicted using a recognised reliability assessment programme.
1.4 Quality assurance
Compliance with this specification does not guarantee the manufacturing consistency of the product. This should be maintained using a recognised quality assurance programme.
1.5 Allowed fibre and cable types
Although the performance tests are carried out on test samples containing dispersion unshifted single mode fibre (see Annex A), the closure, once tested according to this product specification, will be also suited for other fibre types like dispersion shifted, non-zero dispersion shifted and multimode fibres.
This closure standard allows both single mode and multimode fibre to be used and covers IEC standard optical fibre cables with their various fibre capacities, types and designs. This includes, but is not limited to, optical fibre cable standards EN 60794-2 (indoor), EN 60794-3 (outdoor).

Diese Spezifikation enthält die optischen, mechanischen und die Maßanforderungen sowie die Anforde-rungen an die Umweltverträglichkeit eines vollständig installierten Spleißverschlusses zur Verwendung in optischen Verteilnetzen am Boden (Kategorie G), damit dieser als ein EN-Standardprodukt eingestuft werden kann. Diese abgedichteten Muffentypen sind für einfaches und/oder häufiges Öffnen und Schließen in FTTH-Verteilungs- und Verbindungskabelnetzen vorgesehen. ANMERKUNG Die Anforderungen an die Abdichtung und die Prüfschärfegrade dieser Muffen werden so gewählt, dass diese die in EN 60529 festgelegte Schutzklasse IP-67 gegen das Eindringen von Staub und Wasser einhalten.

La présente spécification contient les exigences de performances dimensionnelles, optiques, mécaniques et environnementales d'un boîtier d'épissure entièrement installé pour une utilisation dans les réseaux de distribution optiques au niveau du sol (catégorie G), pour qu'il soit classé comme produit couvert par une norme EN. Ce type de boîtiers scellés est prévu pour une ouverture et une fermeture fréquentes et/ou faciles dans les réseaux de distribution et les réseaux de raccordement FttH.
NOTE Les exigences de performances de scellement et les sévérités d’essai de ces boîtiers sont choisies pour obtenir une performance de protection contre toute intrusion IP 67 comme défini dans l'EN 60529.
1.2 Environnement de fonctionnement
Les essais choisis combinés avec la sévérité et la durée sont représentatifs d'une installation à l'extérieur pour un environnement au niveau du sol défini dans l'EN 61753-1, catégorie G: niveau du sol. Ceci correspond à:
- une plage de température de fonctionnement de: -40 °C à +65 °C;
- une exposition directe à des conditions d'installation extérieure non protégée contre les intempéries;
- un déploiement au niveau du sol, jusqu'à 3 mètres au-dessus du niveau du sol;
- un déploiement jusqu'à 1 mètre sous le niveau du sol, ajouté en plus à l'environnement catégorie G. Les applications directement enterrées sont autorisées, toutefois une protection supplémentaire sera exigée dans le cas des emplacements destinés au passage des voitures et d'autres véhicules lourds.
1.3 Fiabilité
Même si l'espérance de vie du produit en service prévue dans cet environnement est de 20 ans, la conformité à la présente spécification ne garantit pas la fiabilité du produit. Il convient que celle-ci soit estimée en utilisant un programme reconnu d'évaluation de la fiabilité.
1.4 Assurance de la qualité
La conformité à cette spécification ne garantit pas la cohérence de fabrication du produit. Il convient qu’elle soit maintenue en utilisant un programme d'assurance de la qualité reconnu.
1.5 Types de fibres et câbles autorisés
Bien que les essais de performance soient effectués sur des échantillons d’essai avec des fibres unimodales à dispersion non décalée (voir Annexe A), le boîtier, une fois soumis aux essais conformément à la présente spécification de produit, sera également adapté à d’autres types de fibres tels que les fibres à dispersion décalée, à dispersion non-nulle décalée et multimodales.
Cette norme de boîtier permet aussi bien l'utilisation de fibres unimodales que multimodales et couvre tous les câbles à fibres optiques des normes IEC avec leurs variétés de capacités, de types et de conceptions de fibres. Sont incluses, sans que ce soit limitatif, les normes de câbles à fibres optiques EN 60794-2 (intérieurs), EN 60794-3 (extérieurs).
