Steklo v gradbeništvu - Strukturna zasteklitev - 1. del: Stekleni proizvodi za strukturne zasteklitve za podprte in nepodprte monolitne in sestavljene zasteklitve
Standard EN 13022-1 določa zahteve za ustreznost za uporabo podprtih in nepodprtih steklenih proizvodov za uporabo v okviru strukturne zasteklitve (SSG). Slika 1 prikazuje štiri shematske risbe sistemov strukturne zasteklitve, slika 2 pa tri sekcijske risbe sistema strukturne zasteklitve tipa II za namene ponazoritve.

Overview
EN 13022-1:2014 - "Glass in building - Structural sealant glazing (SSG) - Part 1" defines requirements for the suitability of glass products used in structural sealant glazing systems for supported and unsupported monolithic and multiple glazing. The standard applies to soda lime silicate glass (float, patterned, drawn, laminated, etc.) and explicitly excludes plastic glazing. It supplements other product and installation standards to verify glass is appropriate for SSG façades, and includes illustrative schematic and sectional drawings for typical SSG systems.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope of acceptable glass types: only soda lime silicate glasses are covered; laminated, monolithic and multiple (insulating) units are treated within the standard’s limits.
- Suitability verification: criteria and tests to confirm glass can be bonded reliably in SSG systems, including assessment of adhesion between sealant and different glass surfaces (clear float, coated, enamelled, patterned).
- Insulating glass unit (IGU) situations: separate rules for IGUs where the outer sealant has no structural function (situation 1) vs. when it does (situation 2), plus monolithic/laminated cases (situation 3).
- Sealant requirements: when the IGU outer seal has structural function and/or is UV‑exposed without protection, only silicone‑based sealants are permitted for the unit construction.
- Design inputs: guidance on calculating glass thickness, minimum glass thickness, and required height of outer sealant to resist combined loads (wind, snow, self‑weight).
- Dimensional and edge considerations: tolerances, curved glass, corners, notches and drilled holes are addressed to ensure safe SSG bonding and performance.
- Installation environment: all glass products must be installed and bonded under controlled environmental conditions per Clause 5 of EN 13022‑2:2014.
Practical applications and users
This standard is essential for:
- Façade and structural engineers designing SSG curtain walls and bonded glazing systems
- Glass manufacturers and fabricators validating product suitability for SSG
- Sealant manufacturers and test laboratories assessing adhesion and UV resistance
- Architects specifying bonded glazing on high‑performance façades
- Installers, façade contractors and certification bodies ensuring compliant assembly and safety
EN 13022‑1:2014 helps ensure bonded glass façades transfer loads correctly, resist weathering and UV exposure, and meet safety and durability expectations in modern building envelopes.
