Paints and varnishes - Scratch test (ISO 1518:1992)
This standard specifies a test method for determining under defined conditions the resistance of a single coating or a multi-coat system of paint, varnish or related product to penetration by scratching with a hemispherically tipped needle.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide
federation of national Standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work
of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Esch member body interested in a subject for
which a technical committee has been established has the right to be

mental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take patt in the
work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are
circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an Inter-
national Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member
bodies casting a vote.
International Standard ISO 1518 was prepared by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 35, Paints and varnishes, Sub-Committee SC 9, General test
methods for paints and varnishes.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition
(ISO 1518:1973), clauses 3 and 6 and the annex of which have been
technically revised.
Annex A forms an integral part of this International Standard. Annex B
is for information only.
