Overview
EN 50131-10:2014 specifies application-specific requirements for Supervised Premises Transceivers (SPT) used in Intrusion and Hold‑up Alarm Systems (I&HAS). The standard defines how SPTs interface with a Control and Indicating Equipment (CIE) to transmit alarm and other messages from a supervised premises to a remote location. It complements the EN 50136 series (particularly EN 50136-2) and EN 50131-1, focusing on I&HAS‑specific functionality rather than network/ATS performance.
Key topics and technical requirements
- SPT scope & types: Categorisation of SPT structures into Type X (self‑contained), Type Y (installed inside another I&HAS housing, e.g. CIE or power supply), and Type Z (integrated into the CIE).
- Functional interfaces: SPTs must detect input status, generate output signals to the CIE and provide required indications compatible with EN 50131-1 and EN 50136-2.
- Security grades: Conformance to one of the four security grades defined in EN 50131-1 (Grade 1 = lowest to Grade 4 = highest).
- Tamper protection & detection:
- Housing construction must meet tamper and impact (IK code) severity for the assigned grade.
- Opening the housing or removal from mounting triggers mandatory or optional tamper signals depending on grade and wireless/wired mounting.
- Impact energy requirements (examples from the standard: IK04 / 0.5 J for Grade 1; IK06 / 1 J for Grades 2–4).
- Environmental & EMC performance:
- SPTs must be suitable for one of the environmental classes of EN 50131-1.
- Environmental and immunity tests follow EN 50130-5 and EN 50130-4 (test conditions specified in the standard).
- Power supply, substitution monitoring, wireless interconnections, documentation, marking and testing: Detailed functional and test requirements cover power sources, anti‑substitution features, wireless links and product documentation.
Applications and who uses it
- Manufacturers and integrators of alarm transmission equipment designing or certifying SPTs for intrusion and hold‑up systems.
- System designers and installers ensuring SPT components meet I&HAS requirements (tamper, security grade, environmental suitability).
- Certification bodies and test labs validating SPT conformity to EN 50131-10:2014.
- Typical use cases: supervised alarm panels with remote annunciation, integrated SPT/CIE devices, or SPT modules mounted inside alarm control housings.

Introduction
This European Standard should be read in conjunction with EN/TS 50136 series, particularly
EN 50136-2, and includes requirements for Supervised Premises Transceivers (SPT) specific to
Intrusion and hold-up alarm system (I&HAS) applications.
EN 50131-1 requires that notification be by warning device (WD) and/or alarm transmission system
(ATS). The SPT is the equipment that forms part of the ATS and provides the interface to the I&HAS.
A WD is a local means of notification whereas the SPT is a means of initiating notification at a
distance through Annunciation Equipment (AE), via a network and Receiving Centre Transceiver
(RCT).
EN 50131-1 in particular states the Alarm Transmission System (ATS) performance criteria to be used
with an I&HAS according to its security grade.

The SIST EN 50131-10:2014 document provides a comprehensive framework for the requirements of Supervised Premises Transceivers (SPT) utilized within Intrusion and Hold-up Alarm Systems (I&HAS). This European standard is critical in establishing precise criteria that ensure the effectiveness and reliability of SPTs in the transmission of alarm signals and pertinent messages from supervised premises to remote locations. One of the key strengths of this standard is its clear delineation of specific requirements that cater exclusively to SPTs employed in the context of I&HAS. By focusing on this particular application, the standard allows for tailored solutions that enhance the performance and security of intrusion alarm systems. The inclusion of requirements for various configurations of SPTs-whether separate units, integrated within other components, or combined with Control and Indicating Equipment (CIE)-further demonstrates the standard's versatility and comprehensive nature. Additionally, the categorization of SPT into three distinct types (X, Y, and Z) within the standard recognizes the diverse operational needs across different alarm systems. This nuanced approach ensures that the requirements align with varying levels of complexity and functionality specific to the intrusion and hold-up alarm environment. While the SIST EN 50131-10:2014 standard does not provide requirements for the ATS network or performance, its focus on the SPT provides a solid foundational element for alarm system manufacturers and integrators to ensure compliance to best practices in security system deployment. This specificity enhances its relevance in today's market, where the demand for reliable and efficient alarm systems continues to grow in both residential and commercial sectors. Overall, the standard plays a pivotal role in driving the development of robust I&HAS technologies, ensuring they meet rigorous operational standards for safety and reliability.
별도의 SPT, I&HAS 구성 요소의 하우징 내부에 위치한 SPT, 그리고 CIE 또는 I&HAS의 다른 부품과 통합된 SPT 기능 등이 이에 해당합니다.
