Overview

SIST EN 10222-4:2017/kFprA1:2021 is a European Standard published by CEN that specifies the technical delivery conditions for steel forgings used in pressure equipment. This part of the EN 10222 series focuses on weldable fine grain steels with high proof strength. Its primary aim is to ensure consistent quality and performance of steel forgings utilized in pressurized components, supporting both safety and durability.

The standard applies to non-alloy quality steels, non-alloy special steels, and alloy special steels designed for pressure purposes, including grades such as P285NH, P355NL1, P355QL1, P420QH, and P460QL2 among others. It outlines the chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment, and impact energy requirements specific to these materials.

The standard also emphasizes compliance with EU Directive 2014/68/EU, covering the Essential Safety Requirements (ESRs) for pressure equipment, ensuring materials meet safety benchmarks while noting that adequacy for specific equipment must be independently assessed.

Key Topics

  • Steel Grades and Classification
Covers a comprehensive range of weldable fine grain steels, categorized as non-alloy quality, non-alloy special, and alloy special steels. Specific grades with corresponding steel numbers are detailed with their chemical and mechanical properties.

  • Chemical Composition Requirements
Defines maximum content limits for carbon, silicon, phosphorus, nitrogen, chromium, copper, molybdenum, niobium, nickel, vanadium, sulfur, manganese, and aluminum. Proper control of these elements ensures optimal weldability and mechanical strength.

  • Heat Treatment and Delivery Conditions
