1.1 La présente Norme internationale spécifie la solution d'essai, l'appareillage et le mode opératoire d'un essai de corrosion aux gouttelettes salines permettant l'évaluation des revêtements métalliques et inorganiques sur base métallique conformément aux spécifications pour les revêtements et pour les produits finis. 1.2 La méthode d'essai spécifiée convient à la détection des défauts et des discontinuités dans les revêtements métalliques cathodiques par rapport au métal de base, ou dans les revêtements chimiques et électro-chimiques de conversion tels ceux qu'on obtient par chromatation et par phosphatation. La méthode ne s'applique pas à l'essai de revêtements destinés aux usages les plus sévères. 1.3 Le type et le nombre d'éprouvettes, les périodes d'exposition réservées à un produit donné et l'interprétation des résultats ne sont pas spécifiés dans la présente Norme internationale. Ces détails figurent dans les normes appropriées des matériaux et des revêtements.
