Woodworking machines - Safety - Part 8: Belt sanding and calibrating machines for straight workpieces (ISO 19085-8:2017)

This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in Clause 4, which are relevant to machines used to calibrate and/or to sand panels and/or linear work-pieces consisting of solid wood and material with similar physical characteristics to wood, gypsum boards and gypsum bounded fibreboards, fitted with an integrated feed and sanding belt(s) positioned over and/or under the work-piece level and working in the panel feed direction, hereinafter referred to as "machines", when they are operated, adjusted and maintained as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. Loading and/or
unloading is manual or automatic. Also transport, assembly, dismantling, disabling and scrapping phases are taken into account.

-      unité de ponçage transversale;
-      unité de nettoyage par brossage;
-      unité de satinage à rouleau;
-      unité de brossage à disques;
-      unité à texturer à rouleau de brossage;
-      unité à texturer à bande de brossage;
-      unité porte-outil;
-      unité à texturer à scie à ruban;
-      unité de rouleau à pointes;
-      barres antistatiques;
-      convoyeur directement commandé par la machine;
a)    bois massif;
b)    matériau présentant des caractéristiques physiques similaires à celles du bois (voir l'ISO 19085‑1:2017, 3.2);
c)    panneaux en plâtre, panneaux en fibres agglomérées au plâtre;
d)    matériaux composites dont la base est constituée, par exemple, de polyuréthane ou d'un matériau minéral;
e)    panneaux en composite fabriqués à partir des matériaux énumérés ci-dessus;
-      des dispositifs spécifiques autres que ceux énumérés ci-dessus;
-      l'accès par les ouvertures d'entrée et de sortie des machines ayant une capacité de hauteur de pièce supérieure à 550 mm;
-      des systèmes pour le chargement et/ou déchargement automatique de la pièce d'une machine individuelle;

provide one voluntary means of conforming to essential requirements of the new approach Machinery
Directive 2006/42/EC.
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive,
compliance with the normative clauses of this standard given in Table ZA.1 confers, within the limits of
the scope of this standard, a presumption of conformity with the corresponding essential requirements
of that Directive and associated EFTA regulations.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are
described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular, the different approval criteria needed for the
different types of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the
editorial rules of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 (see www.iso.org/directives).
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. Details of
any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be in the Introduction and/or
on the ISO list of patent declarations received (see www.iso.org/patents).
