Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Extruded precision profiles in alloys EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063 - Part 1: Technical conditions for inspection and delivery
This document specifies technical conditions for inspection and delivery of alloys EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063 extruded precision profiles manufactured with and without a thermal barrier (see Figures 1 and 2) and without further surface treatment.
Precision profiles for which this document is applicable are distinguished from extruded profiles for general applications covered in EN 755-9 by the following characteristics:
— they are designed with mostly uniform wall-thicknesses;
— they are mainly used for mechanical engineering, architectural and automotive (except crash-elements) applications;
— the maximum weight by meter is 10 kg/m;
— the max. wall-thickness proportion (tmax/tmin) of 3,5.
In the case of profiles, which, due to the complexity of their design are difficult to manufacture and specify, then special agreements between supplier and purchaser may need to be reached.
NOTE The effect of the thermal barrier material on the dimensional tolerances is covered by EN 12020-2 although the actual thermal barrier material itself is not (see EN 14024).

— sie werden mit meist gleichmäßigen Wanddicken ausgeführt;
— sie werden hauptsächlich im Maschinenbau, in der Architektur und im Automobilbau (außer Crash-elementen) eingesetzt;
— das maximale Metergewicht beträgt 10 kg/m;
- ils sont conçus avec des épaisseurs de paroi le plus souvent uniformes ;
- ils sont principalement destinés à des applications du génie mécanique, de l'architecture et de l'automobile (à l'exception des éléments exposés aux collisions) ;
- la masse maximale par mètre est de 10 kg/m ;
– zasnovani so z večinoma enakomernimi debelinami sten;
– uporabljajo se predvsem v strojništvu, arhitekturi in avtomobilski industriji (razen elementov proti trčenju);
– največja teža na meter je 10 kg/m;

Overview
EN 12020-1:2022 - "Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Extruded precision profiles in alloys EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063 - Part 1: Technical conditions for inspection and delivery" is a CEN standard that defines the inspection, testing and delivery requirements for precision extruded aluminium profiles in alloys EN AW‑6060 and EN AW‑6063. It covers profiles manufactured with or without a thermal barrier and supplied without further surface treatment. The standard is intended for profiles with mostly uniform wall thicknesses, a maximum linear mass of 10 kg/m, and a maximum wall‑thickness ratio (tmax/tmin) of 3.5.
Key topics and requirements
- Scope and applicability
Precision extruded profiles used mainly in mechanical engineering, architectural and automotive applications (except crash elements). Complex designs may require special supplier–purchaser agreements. - Ordering and drawings
Order documents must specify alloy (EN AW‑6060/6063), temper (per EN 755‑2 and EN 515), application (surface treatment if intended), reference to EN 12020‑1, drawings with nominal dimensions, and any special requirements (length, quantity, marking, packaging). - Production & quality control
Manufacturing processes are left to the producer unless otherwise agreed. Inspection and tests are to follow the relevant EN standards; purchaser should notify any intended works inspection at ordering. - Chemical and mechanical requirements
Chemical composition limits follow EN 573‑3. Mechanical properties follow EN 755‑2 or as agreed. - Surface finish
Visible extruded surfaces must be free of defects that impair use. Minor defects acceptable if within surface roughness limits: Rz ≤ 9 µm or Ra ≤ 2 µm (EN ISO 4287 / 4288). Discoloration or blemishes removable by anodizing (EN ISO 7599) or painting (EN 12206‑1) are permitted. - Tolerances and section mass
Dimensional and form tolerances are specified in EN 12020‑2. Section mass per metre may vary within the tolerance limits unless otherwise agreed. - Testing and sampling
Sampling for chemical analysis is performed at casting per EN 14361. Tensile and hardness tests per referenced EN/ISO methods (e.g., EN ISO 6892‑1, EN ISO 6506‑1) and sampling per EN 755‑1. - Documentation, marking & packaging
Inspection documents (per EN 10204), product marking and packaging requirements are specified and should be agreed in the order document.
