This document gives requirements and guidance for the assessment of conformity of formulations, products and assemblies in accordance with EN 1329 1 intended to be included in the manufacturer’s quality plan as part of the quality management system and for the establishment of third-party certification procedures.
NOTE 1 The quality management system is expected to conform to or is no less stringent than the relevant requirements to EN ISO 9001 [1].
NOTE 2 If third party certification is involved, the certification body is expected to be compliant with either EN ISO/IEC 17065 [2] or EN ISO/IEC 17021-series [3], as applicable.
NOTE 3 In order to help the reader, a basic test matrix is given in Annex A.
In conjunction with EN 1329 1, this document is applicable to piping systems made of unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC U) intended for soil and waste discharge systems (low and high temperature):
- inside buildings (application area code "B");
- both inside buildings and buried in ground within the building structure (application area code "BD").

Dieses Dokument enthält Anforderungen und Empfehlungen für die Bewertung der Konformität von Zusammensetzungen, Erzeugnissen und Bauteilkombinationen nach EN 1329 1, die als Teil des Qualitätsmanagementsystems im Qualitätssicherungsplan des Herstellers und für die Einführung von Verfahren zur Drittstellenzertifizierung vorgesehen sind.
ANMERKUNG 1 Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass das Qualitätsmanagementsystem EN ISO 9001 [1] oder mindestens ebenso strengen Anforderungen entspricht.

This document (CEN/TS 1329-2:2021) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 155
“Plastics piping systems and ducting systems”, the secretariat of which is held by NEN.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes CEN/TS 1329-2:2018.
Compared with CEN/TS 1329-2:2018, the following changes have been made:
— merging of Table 1 and Table 2 to have the new Table 1 “Formulation tolerances”;
— clarification that a lower content of non-virgin material in the formulation which has already been

— increase of minimum testing frequencies if a non-virgin material is used.
EN 1329 consists of the following parts, under the general title “Plastics piping systems for soil and waste
discharge (low and high temperature) within the building structure — Unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride)
(PVC-U)”:
— Part 1: Specifications for pipes, fittings and the system;
— Part 2: Guidance for the assessment of conformity.

Introduction
This revision of the EN 1329 series is proposed in order to improve the 'level of sustainability' and the
'environmental impact' of PVC piping systems, whilst improving the recommendations and safe use of
recycled material. Recycled material is categorized as non-virgin material in this document.
Regarding this specific target, more focus was given to the control of applied material formulation and
to the final characteristics and performance of products.
This document is based on the template prepared in CEN/TC 155/WG21 version V.5.
Figures 1 and 2 are intended to provide general information on the concept of testing and organization
of those tests used for the purpose of the assessment of conformity. For each type of test, i.e. type
testing (TT), batch release test (BRT), process verification test (PVT) and audit test (AT), this document
details the applicable characteristics to be assessed and the frequency and sampling of testing.
A typical scheme for the assessment of conformity of formulations, pipes, fittings, valves or assemblies
by manufacturers is given in Figure 1.

1 Scope
This document gives requirements and guidance for the assessment of conformity of formulations,
products and assemblies in accordance with EN 1329-1 intended to be included in the manufacturer’s
quality plan as part of the quality management system and for the establishment of third-party
certification procedures.

Formulations, products, joints and assemblies shall conform to the requirements given in EN 1329-1.
Products shall be produced by the manufacturer under a quality management system which includes a
quality plan (including specifications on joints and assemblies).
NOTE It is expected that the quality management system conforms to or is no less stringent than the relevant
requirements in EN ISO 9001 [1].

6 Testing and inspection
6.1 Material specification
For the purposes of this document, the material specification consists of a formulation which defines
PVC resin, additives, non-virgin material (if applicable) and their dosage levels.
The dosage level of ingredients of a formulation shall not exceed the tolerance given in Table 1. If any
dosage level exceeds the tolerance or if a type is changed, this variation constitutes a change in material
(it is referred to as “M” in Tables 4 to 6).
In Table 1, the values of the parts X added to 100 parts by mass of PVC shall be specified by the
manufacturer in the quality plan.

6.2 Grouping
6.2.1 General
For the purposes of this document, the groups specified in 6.2.2 and 6.2.3 apply.
6.2.2 Size groups
Three size groups are defined for pipes and fittings, as given in Table 2.
For testing purposes, one individual nominal diameter, d , shall be selected from each group.

6.2.3 Fitting groups
Fittings having a similar design are divided into three groups, as given in Table 3.
For testing purposes, one individual fitting shall be selected from each group.

6.3 Type testing
Relevant TTs shall be carried out whenever there is a change in design or formulation or production
method (other than routine in-process adjustments), or whenever there is an extension of the product
range.
Type tests, to be carried out when there has been a change of the production site, depend on the extent
of the change. Therefore relevant type tests should be defined individually by the manufacturer.
Type tests shall demonstrate that the products conform to all requirements for the characteristics given
in Table 4 to Table 6, as applicable.

This document (FprCEN/TS 1329-2:2020) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 155
“Plastics piping systems and ducting systems”, the secretariat of which is held by NEN.
This document is currently submitted to the Vote on TS.
This document will supersede CEN/TS 1329-2:2018.
Compared with CEN/TS 1329-2:2018, the following changes have been made:
— merging of Table 1 and Table 2 to have the new Table 1 “Formulation tolerances”;
— clarification that a lower content of non-virgin material in the formulation which has already been
Type tested and which is fulfilling the agreed specification is not considered as a material change;
— increase of minimum testing frequencies if an non-virgin material is used.
EN 1329 consists of the following parts, under the general title “Plastics piping systems for soil and waste

Introduction
This revision of the EN 1329 series is proposed in order to improve the 'level of sustainability' and the
'environmental impact' of PVC piping systems, whilst improving the recommendations and safe use of
recycled material. Recycled material is categorized as non-virgin material in this document.
Regarding this specific target, more focus was given to the control of applied material formulation and
to the final characteristics and performance of products.
This document is based on the template prepared in CEN/TC 155/WG21 version V.5.
Figures 1 and 2 are intended to provide general information on the concept of testing and organization
of those tests used for the purpose of the assessment of conformity. For each type of test, i.e. type test
(TT), batch release test (BRT), process verification test (PVT) and audit test (AT), this document details
the applicable characteristics to be assessed and the frequency and sampling of testing.
A typical scheme for the assessment of conformity of formulations, pipes, fittings, valves or assemblies
by manufacturers is given in Figure 1.

1 Scope
This document gives requirements and guidance for the assessment of conformity of formulations,
products and assemblies in accordance with EN 1329-1 intended to be included in the manufacturer’s
quality plan as part of the quality management system and for the establishment of third-party
certification procedures.
NOTE 1 The quality management system is expected to conform to or is no less stringent than the relevant
requirements to EN ISO 9001 [1].
NOTE 2 If third party certification is involved, the certification body is expected to be compliant with either
EN ISO/IEC 17065 [2] or EN ISO/IEC 17021-series [3], as applicable.
NOTE 3 In order to help the reader, a basic test matrix is given in Annex A.
In conjunction with EN 1329-1, this document is applicable to piping systems made of unplasticized
poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) intended for soil and waste discharge systems (low and high
temperature):
— inside buildings (application area code “B”);
— both inside buildings and buried in ground within the building structure (application area
code “BD”).

Formulations, products, joints and assemblies shall conform to the requirements given in EN 1329-1.
Products shall be produced by the manufacturer under a quality management system which includes a
quality plan (including specifications on joints and assemblies).
NOTE It is expected that the quality management system conforms to or is no less stringent than the relevant
requirements in EN ISO 9001 [1].
6 Testing and inspection
6.1 Material specification
For the purposes of this document, the material specification consists of a formulation which defines
PVC resin, additives, non-virgin material (if applicable) and their dosage levels.
The dosage level of ingredients of a formulation shall not exceed the tolerance given in Table 1. If any
dosage level exceeds the tolerance or if a type is changed, this variation constitutes a change in material
(it is referred to as “M” in Tables 4 to 6).
In Table 1, the values of the parts X added to 100 parts by mass of PVC shall be specified by the
manufacturer in the quality plan.

Three size groups are defined for pipes and fittings, as given in Table 2.
For testing purposes, one individual nominal diameter, d , shall be selected from each group.

6.2.3 Fitting groups
Fittings having a similar design are divided into three groups, as given in Table 3.
For testing purposes, one individual fitting shall be selected from each group.

6.3 Type testing
Relevant TTs shall be carried out whenever there is a change in design or formulation or production
method (other than routine in-process adjustments), or whenever there is an extension of the product
range.
Type tests, to be carried out when there has been a change of the production site, depend on the extent
of the change. Therefore relevant type tests should be defined individually by the manufacturer.
Type tests shall demonstrate that the products conform to all requirements for the characteristics given
in Table 4 to Table 6, as applicable.
