This standard specifies specific safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of all semi-mounted, trailed and self-propelled slurry tankers, including their spreading or injecting devices, intended for spreading or injecting slurry which are operated by either pneumatic or mechanical power.

This document (EN 707:2018) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 144 “Tractors and
machinery for agriculture and forestry”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2019, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by June 2019.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 707:1999+A1:2009.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the

EN 707:1999+A1:2009 has been technically revised. The main following changes were introduced:

Introduction
This document is a type-C standard as specified in EN ISO 12100.
The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events
are covered are indicated in the scope of this document. These hazards are specific to slurry tankers.
Significant hazards that are common to all the agricultural machines (self-propelled, mounted, semi-
mounted and trailed) are dealt with in EN ISO 4254-1.
When provisions of this type C standard are different from those which are stated in type A or B
standards, the provisions of this type C standard take precedence over the provisions of the other
standards, for machines that have been designed and built according to the provisions of this type C
standard.
The requirements of the European Directive on pressure equipment will be dealt with by the revision of
this standard.
This document is of relevance, in particular, for the following stakeholder groups representing the market
players with regard to machinery safety:
— machine manufacturers (small, medium and large enterprises);
— health and safety bodies (regulators, accident prevention organizations, market surveillance etc.).
Others can be affected by the level of machinery safety achieved with the means of the document by the
above-mentioned stakeholder groups:
— machine users/employers (small, medium and large enterprises);
— machine users/employees (e.g. trade unions, organizations for people with special needs);
— service providers, e.g. for maintenance (small, medium and large enterprises);
— consumers (in case of machinery intended for use by consumers).
The above-mentioned stakeholder groups have been given the possibility to participate at the drafting

1 Scope
This document, to be used together with EN ISO 4254-1, specifies the safety requirements and their
verification for the design and construction of semi-mounted, trailed and self-propelled slurry tankers,
including their spreading or injecting devices, intended for handling and transporting and/or distributing
slurry which are operated by either pneumatic or mechanical power. In addition, it specifies the type of
information on safe working practices to be provided by the manufacturer.
When requirements of this document are different from those which are stated in EN ISO 4254-1, the
requirements of this document take precedence over the requirements of EN ISO 4254-1 for machines
that have been designed and built according the provisions of this document.
This document, taken together with EN ISO 4254-1, deals with all the significant hazards, hazardous
situations and events relevant to slurry tankers, when they are used as intended and under the conditions
of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Table A.1), excepting the hazards
related to road safety (e.g. steering, braking).
Environmental aspects have not been considered in this document.
This document is not applicable to slurry tankers which are manufactured before the date of its
publication as EN.

3 Terms and definitions

following apply.

4 Safety requirements and/or measures
4.1 General
Machinery shall comply with the safety requirements and/or protective measures of this clause.
In addition, the machine shall be designed according to the principles of EN ISO 12100 for relevant, but
not significant, hazards which are not dealt with by this document.
Unless otherwise specified in this European Standard, the machine shall comply with the requirements
of EN ISO 4254-1:2015 and with EN ISO 13857:2008, Table 1, Table 3 and Table 4, as appropriate.

4.2 Requirements for all types of slurry tankers
4.2.1 Manual controls
4.2.1.1 Manual control of the distributing operation
It shall be possible to start and stop the distributing operation from the driving position of the tractor or
the self- propelled machine.
4.2.1.2 Manual control for the compressor or the pump
Preferably, it shall be possible to actuate the manual control for the compressor or the pump from the
driving position of the tractor or self-propelled machine.
Otherwise one manual control, accessible from the ground, shall be located on each side of the tank at a
minimum horizontal distance of 550 mm from the central axis of PTO drive shaft, measured
perpendicular to this axis (see example in Figure 1).
The functions linked to the different positions of the manual control shall be clearly identified.

4.2.2 Tank
4.2.2.1 Cleaning or filling openings
The tank shall have sufficiently sized and placed opening(s) to allow routine service and maintenance,
effective cleaning of the entire tank interior or to eliminate any clogging without the necessity for
personnel to enter the tank.

To avoid the risk of whole body access into the tank, the openings in the tank shall not be greater than
400 mm in diameter, or not greater than 400 mm × 300 mm, if rectangular.
Larger openings shall be provided with a grating which can only be removed by the use of tools. The
apertures in the grating shall not exceed these dimensions.
Covers of cleaning or filling openings on the tank shall be designed, or fitted with a device, to prevent
their unintentional closing.
Where the cover of a cleaning or filling opening is hydraulically controlled, it shall be possible to actuate
the manual control from the driving position of the tractor or self-propelled machine and the hydraulic
hose coupling connected to the tractor shall be clearly identified.
4.2.2.2 Manholes
If provided, the size of manholes shall have a minimum clear diameter of 600 mm.
NOTE Access through a manhole is intended only for access by professional service personnel for work other
than normal operation, service or maintenance, i.e. repairing [see 6.1.1 u)].
Unintended whole-body access into the tank through the manhole aperture shall be prevented by a
grating removable by tools.
Manhole covers shall be designed to be manually opened and closed.
The mass of the manhole cover, if removable, shall not exceed 25 kg.
Manhole covers, if hinged, shall be designed, or fitted with a device, to prevent their unintentional closing.
A warning shall be provided indicating that climbing into the tank is only allowed for professional service
personnel (see 6.2.2).
4.2.2.3 Partitions
Tanks having a capacity equal to or greater than 6 000 l shall be equipped with anti-surge partition(s)
according to Table 1. The partition(s) shall be perpendicular to the direction of movement of the machine
and each of them shall have a surface area at least equal to 2/3 of the tank cross-section (see Figure 2 for
examples).
The partitions should be installed as evenly as possible over the length of the tank.
Partitions and their fastenings shall be designed to be resistant against corrosion.

4.2.2.4 Hoses
Slurry tankers which need connecting hoses for filling purposes shall be fitted with means for supporting
and securely retaining these hoses on the tanker during transport.
It shall be possible to store the hoses from the ground in the means for transport or a corresponding
lifting device shall be provided.
4.2.2.5 Filling arm
It shall only be possible to actuate the manual control of the filling arm, if any, from the driving position
of the tractor or the self-propelled machine.

The complete range of movement of the filling arm shall be visible to the operator when in the driving
position.
The manual control shall be of the hold-to-run-type.
4.2.2.6 Level indicator
The tank shall be equipped with a level indicator to show the level of slurry within the tank.
The level indicator shall be located such that it is readable from the driving position of the tractor or self-
propelled machine. A level indicator shall also be readable at other operator workplaces provided on the
machine when the machine is not equipped with an automatic switch-off device for the filling pump (e.g.
limit switch).
Slurry tankers the capacity of which exceeds 6 000 l shall be equipped with a level indicator continuously
indicating the level of slurry in the tank.
4.2.3 Spreading or injecting boom
4.2.3.1 Swivelling components
The folding/unfolding operations shall not require a manual force greater than 250 N.
Booms that can be manually folded/unfolded shall be fitted with two handles located at a distance of at
least 300 mm from the nearest articulation. These handles may be integral parts of the boom, provided
they are suitably designed and clearly identified.
In the case of powered operation, the control for the swivelling shall be of the hold-to-run type and the
manual control shall be located outside the swivelling zone.
The folding/unfolding speed shall not exceed 0,5 m/s when measured at the end of the boom.
A device shall be provided to prevent the boom from moving when it is folded in the transport position.
If the locking device is a hydraulic locking device it shall comply with of EN ISO 4254-1:2015, 4.11.3.
The locking device and the boom folding/unfolding actions shall be controlled by separate systems.
4.2.3.2 Adjustment of the height of the boom
The manual force necessary to adjust the height of the boom shall not exceed 250 N.
Where height adjustment is by a winch, this winch shall be self-arresting and capable of withstanding at
least a load equal to 2 times the weight of the boom.
Means used for adjustment of the height of the boom (e.g. wire ropes, cables) shall withstand at least a
load 4 times the weight of the boom.
The winch shall be operable from the ground.
In the case of powered height adjustment, it shall be possible to actuate the manual control from the
driving position and the control shall be of the hold-to-run type. To ensure the protection of the operator
against crushing and shearing hazards related to a failure of the control circuit, the machine shall be fitted
with a device which limits the maximum downward speed of the boom to 10 mm/s.
The boom shall be lockable in position for servicing and maintenance purposes.
The injecting devices shall be in contact with the ground before it is possible to operate the control for
putting the injecting boom in floating position or in weight transfer position.
4.2.3.3 Emptying of the boom
It shall be possible to isolate the contents of the tank from the boom in order to allow the boom to be
emptied in the low position for transport, maintenance or removal and storage.

4.2.3.4 Stability of the boom when parked and for manual handling
The boom shall be designed to be stable when parked according to the information in the instruction
handbook on firm ground with an inclination of at least 8,5° in all directions.
Where transport rollers are fitted to the boom for ease of manual handling when detached from the
tanker, the boom and the location of these rollers shall be designed so that the boom is stable and will not
overturn during such handling.
Compliance with this requirement shall be verified as follows: Place the boom, which has been parked in
accordance with the information in the instruction handbook, on a horizontal and even plane. Then push
it at a speed of 1 m/s against a fixed rectangular obstacle 50 mm high with a length at least equal to the
distance between the external transport rollers and located on the ground at a right angle to the direction
of movement of the boom.
The boom shall remain upright.
On booms fitted with transport rollers for ease of manual handling, devices shall be provided for avoiding
unintended rolling away.
4.2.4 Means of access and place to stand
If, during normal operation, access is required by the operator to the upper part of the tank (e.g. for access
to opening(s), to routinely clean a tube style level indicator), means of access complying with
EN ISO 4254-1:2015, 4.8 shall be provided.
Locations that need to be reached for the normal operation of the machine and are not accessible from
the ground (e.g. distributor of drip hose boom, tank openings, cutting devices, foreign object separators)
shall be equipped with access means and platforms according to EN ISO 4254-1:2015, 4.7.2 and 4.8.
Parts of the spreading or injecting boom shall not be used as handholds related to the means of access.
4.2.5 Hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical interconnections
When the hydraulic braking system of the tanker is intended to be coupled to the tractor service braking
system, then the coupling defined in ISO 5676 shall be used. This coupling shall only be fitted in the
braking circuit. For pneumatic braking, see ISO 1728:2006.
4.2.6 Stability and immobilisation of the tanker
4.2.6.1 Stability
4.2.6.1.1 Dynamic stability
During travelling, sufficient stability shall be provided. This requirement is deemed to be fulfilled if the
static tipping angle is at least 23° about the most unfavourable axis of the machine. The determination
and verification of the tipping angle can be by calculation or by test with the machine fully laden.
NOTE More details regarding the description of the test procedure will be provided by an amendment.
4.2.6.1.2 Static stability
4.2.6.1.2.1 Ground pressure
When the tanker is parked on a horizontal surface, containing a uniform load equal to the maximum
permissible load declared by the manufacturer, any supporting devices other than wheels shall have a

4.2.6.1.2.2 Immobilisation (parking brake)
Tankers shall be provided with a parking brake.
The parking brake system with which the tanker is equipped shall be capable of holding the laden
detached tanker stationary on an 18 % up and down gradient.
Verification: by standing the tanker, loaded at its maximum permissible load, and with any steerable
axles in the most unfavourable position on a firm surface with a gradient of 18 %. The slurry tanker shall
be positioned with its forward direction of travel facing up the gradient with the parking brake applied
and providing the only means of restraint, the slurry tanker shall not move. The test shall be repeated
with the forward direction of travel facing down the gradient.
During the test, the tanker shall not move.
If blocks are provided with the tankers, a location shall be provided on the tanker for their storage when
they are not used.
This device shall be designed to secure the chocks so they cannot detach from the tanker unintentionally
or move freely when the tanker is in motion.
The wheel chocks need to be safe to operate and be easily accessible from outside the contour of the
machine. Hooks or chains shall not be used as a device for storage/fixation. The device should preferably
be in the front or in close proximity to the wheels.

4.2.7 Jacking points
Jacking points shall be designed and provided according to EN ISO 4254-1:2015, 5.2.3.
4.2.8 Protection against risks associated with overhead power lines
4.2.8.1 Spreading or injecting booms
To limit the risks associated with overhead power lines, the booms shall be capable of folding and
unfolding without exceeding a height of 4 m. This requirement:
— does not apply during release of the folded components from the transport position, and during
positioning of the folded components into the transport position;
— shall be verified by measurement as follows: the height of 4 m shall be measured with the machine
on horizontal level ground.
When a height of 4 m can be exceeded during folding or unfolding of parts, a label shall be affixed to the
machine to inform the operator about the heights of the folding parts achievable and potential hazard of
