Office furniture - Office work chair - Part 2: Safety requirements

This document specifies safety, strength and durability requirements for office work chairs.
It does not apply to other seating in the office area for which other European Standards exist.
The requirements are based upon use for 8 h a day by persons weighing up to 110 kg.
Annex A (informative) contains loads, masses and cycles for functional tests.

Dieses Dokument legt Anforderungen an die Sicherheit, Festigkeit und Dauerhaltbarkeit für Büro-Arbeitsstühle fest.
Es gilt nicht für andere Sitzmöbel im Bürobereich, für die andere Europäische Normen vorliegen.
Die Anforderungen berücksichtigen eine Benutzung von täglich 8 h durch Personen mit einem Gewicht bis zu 110 kg.
Anhang A (informativ) enthält Gewichte, Massen und Zyklen für die Funktionsprüfungen.

Mobilier de bureau - Sièges de travail de bureau - Partie 2 : Exigences de sécurité

La présente Norme européenne prescrit les exigences de sécurité, de résistance et de durabilité relatives aux sièges de travail de bureau.
Elle ne s'applique pas aux autres sièges utilisés dans l'espace d'un bureau pour lesquels d'autres Normes Européennes existent.
Les exigences sont basées sur un usage de 8 h par jour par une personne pesant jusqu’à 110 kg. Pour des conditions d’usage plus sévères, il sera nécessaire d’accroître les exigences.
L'Annexe A (informative) contient des charges, masses et cycles pour les essais fonctionnels.

Pisarniško pohištvo - Pisarniški delovni stoli - 2. del: Varnostne zahteve

Ta evropski standard določa zahteve za varnost, trdnost in trajnost pisarniških delovnih stolov.
Ne uporablja se za druge sedeže v pisarnah, za katere so na voljo drugi standardi EN (EN 16139).
Zahteve temeljijo na uporabi 8 ur na dan za osebe, ki tehtajo do 110 kg. Za zahtevnejše pogoje uporabe bodo potrebne večje zahteve.
Dodatek A (informativni) vsebuje dodatne funkcionalne preskuse.

Overview - EN 1335-2:2018 (Office work chair - Safety requirements)

EN 1335-2:2018, published by CEN, specifies safety, strength and durability requirements for office work chairs intended for up to 8 hours’ daily use by persons weighing up to 110 kg. It applies specifically to office work chairs and does not cover other office seating governed by other European standards. The standard references test methods from EN 1728:2012 (strength & durability) and EN 1022:2018 (stability) and includes an informative Annex A with suggested loads, masses and cycles for functional tests.

  • Minimise risk of user injury; accessible edges of seat, back and armrests must be rounded (minimum 2 mm radius) or chamfered.
  • Hollow accessible components must be closed or capped.
  • Adjusting devices must be operable from the seated position and avoid inadvertent operation.
• Shear and squeeze points
  • No accessible shear/squeeze points created by powered mechanisms (gas lifts, springs, motors).
  • No shear/squeeze points under normal use that could cause injury under user weight or movement.
• Stability, strength and durability testing
  • Stability testing according to EN 1022:2018 (corner, forward/sideward/rearward overturning tests).
  • Strength and durability testing according to EN 1728:2012 (combined seat/back load, seat-front edge, armrest durability, etc.).
  • Tests must typically be run on the same sample in a specified sequence; certain armrest static tests are performed both before and after stability testing.
• Rolling resistance
  • After all tests, unloaded chairs are tested per EN 1728:2012; rolling resistance requirement: approximately ≤ 12 N, and castors shall be of identical construction.
• Information and reporting
  • User information must include intended use, adjustments, operation of mechanisms, maintenance, castor selection and warnings about energy-accumulator replacements.
  • Test reports must reference EN 1335-2:2018 and include description, defects, test results, test facility and date.
