EN 16522 defines the minimum requirements for flame arresters fitted to tanks for the transport of dangerous goods. This European Standard specifies the type of flame arrestor to be used for breather devices as part of the service equipment of fixed tanks and demountable tanks for the transport of liquid petroleum products. The equipment specified by this European Standard is suitable for use with liquid petroleum products and other dangerous substances of Class 3 of ADR which have a vapour pressure not exceeding 110 kPa at 50 °C and petrol, and which have no subclassification as toxic or corrosive. It also specifies the tests necessary to verify the compliance of the equipment with this European Standard. Emergency pressure relief valves in accordance with EN 14596 are excluded from the requirements of this European Standard.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Mindestanforderungen an Flammendurchschlagsicherungen fest, die in Tanks für die Beförderung gefährlicher Güter eingebaut werden.
Diese Europäische Norm legt die für den Einbau der Flammendurchschlagsicherungen geeigneten Stellen und die zugehörigen Leistungsanforderungen fest. Außerdem werden Prüfungen festgelegt, die zur Verifizierung der Übereinstimmung dieses Elements der Bedienausrüstung mit der vorliegenden Europäischen Norm notwendig sind. Die hier beschriebene Bedienausrüstung ist geeignet für Tanks zur Beförderung von flüssigen Erdölprodukten und anderen gefährlichen Stoffen der Klasse 3 nach ADR, deren Dampfdruck bei 50 °C 110 kPa nicht überschreitet und die weder als toxisch noch als korrosiv klassifiziert sind.
Für Notentlastungsventile nach EN 14596 gelten die Anforderungen dieser Europäischen Norm nicht.

La présente Norme européenne prescrit les exigences minimales relatives aux arrête-flammes installés sur des citernes destinées au transport de matières dangereuses.
Elle spécifie l'endroit où les arrête-flammes doivent être installés, ainsi que des exigences en matière de performances applicables à ces dispositifs. Les essais à réaliser pour vérifier la conformité des équipements à cette norme y sont également prescrits. Les équipements spécifiés par la présente norme conviennent à une utilisation avec des produits pétroliers liquides et autres matières dangereuses de la classe 3 de l’ADR dont la tension de vapeur ne dépasse pas 110 kPa à 50 °C (y compris l’essence), et qui n’appartiennent à aucune sous-classification des produits toxiques ou corrosifs.
Les exigences spécifiées dans la présente Norme européenne ne s'appliquent pas aux clapets de surpression accidentelle conformes à l'EN 14596.

EN 16522 določa minimalne zahteve za plamenske zapore, nameščene na cisterne za prevoz nevarnega blaga. Ta evropski standard določa vrsto plamenskih zapor za uporabo z oddušniki, ki so del opreme za obratovanje pritrjenih in odstranljivih cistern za prevoz tekočih naftnih proizvodov. Oprema, ki jo določa ta evropski standard, je primerna za uporabo s tekočimi naftnimi proizvodi in drugimi nevarnimi snovmi kategorije 3 ADR, katerih parni tlak ne presega 110 kPa pri 50 °C, ter z motornim bencinom, pri čemer niso dodatno opredeljeni kot strupeni ali korozivni. Določa tudi preskuse, potrebne za preverjanje skladnosti opreme s tem evropskim standardom. Iz zahtev tega evropskega standarda so izvzeti tlačni varnostni ventili v sili v skladu s standardom EN 14596.
