This part of IEC 61804 specifies the Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL)
technology, which enables the integration of real product details using the tools of the
engineering life cycle.
This part of IEC 61804 specifies EDDL as a generic language for describing the properties of
automation system components. EDDL is capable of describing
• device parameters and their dependencies;
• device functions, for example, simulation mode, calibration;
• graphical representations, for example, menus;
• interactions with control devices;
• graphical representations:
– enhanced user interface,
– graphing system;
• persistent data store.
EDDL is used to create Electronic Device Description (EDD) for example concrete devices,
common usable profiles or libraries. This EDD is used with appropriate tools to generate an
interpretative code to support parameter handling, operation, and monitoring of automation
system components such as remote I/Os, controllers, sensors, and programmable controllers.
Tool implementation is outside the scope of this standard.
This part of IEC 61804 specifies the semantic and lexical structure in a syntax-independent
manner. A specific syntax is defined in Annex A, but it is possible to use the semantic model
also with different syntaxes.

L'IEC 61804-3:2015 spécifie la technologie de langage de description électronique de produit (EDDL), qui permet en utilisant les outils d'ingénierie l'intégration des détails du produit réel dans les systèmes tout au long du cycle de vie. Elle spécifie l'EDDL en tant que langage générique pour décrire les propriétés des composants système mettant en oeuvre des automatismes. Cette troisième édition annule et remplace la deuxième édition parue en 2010. Cette édition constitue une révision technique. Cette édition inclut les modifications techniques majeures suivantes par rapport à l'édition précédente: Les Builtins et leurs profils ont été supprimés et déplacés dans la norme IEC 61804-5. Les extensions suivantes sont intégrées à la spécification EDDL pour satisfaire aux exigences FDI:
- nouvelles constructions de BLOB, PLUGIN;
- construction de composant pour les exigences de serveur de communication (attributs supplémentaires);
- extension de l'attribut classe;
- nouveaux attributs PRIVATE, VISIBILITY, WRITE_MODE.

Ta del standarda IEC 61804 določa tehnologijo opisnega jezika za elektronske naprave (EDDL), ki omogoča integracijo dejanskih podrobnosti izdelka z uporabo orodij življenjskega cikla inženiringa.
Ta del standarda IEC 61804 določa opisni jezik za elektronske naprave kot splošni jezik za opisovanje lastnosti komponent avtomatiziranih sistemov. Opisni jezik za elektronske naprave lahko opisuje:
• parametre naprav in njihove odvisnosti;
• funkcije naprav, npr. način simulacije, umerjanje;
• grafične predstavitve, npr. menije;
• medsebojno vplivanje krmilnih naprav;
• grafične predstavitve:
– izboljšan uporabniški vmesnik,
– grafični sistem;
• obstojno shrambo podatkov.
Opisni jezik za elektronske naprave se uporablja za ustvarjanje opisov za elektronske naprave (EDD), npr. fizične naprave, splošno uporabljane profile ali knjižnice. Ta opis za elektronske naprave se uporablja z ustreznimi orodji za generiranje razlagalne kode za podporo ravnanju s parametri ter upravljanje in nadzor komponent avtomatiziranih sistemov, kot so oddaljeni I/O, krmilniki, senzorji in programirljivi krmilniki. Uvedba orodja ni zajeta v tem standardu. Ta del standarda IEC 61804 določa semantično in leksikalno strukturo na način, ki je neodvisen od sintakse. V dodatku A je opredeljena specifična sintaksa, vendar je semantični model mogoče uporabljati
