FOREWORD

1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising

all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international

co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and

in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,

Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their

preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with

may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising

with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for

Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.

2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international

consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all

interested IEC National Committees.

3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National

Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC

Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any

misinterpretation by any end user.

4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications

transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between

any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.

5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity

assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any

services carried out by independent certification bodies.

6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.

7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and

members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or

other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and

expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC

Publications.

8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is

indispensable for the correct application of this publication.

9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject of patent

rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.

4 Dimensions and specific requirements
4.1 General

The symbols and dimensions are given in Figure 1 to Figure 6, Table 1, Annex A and Annex B.

All dimensions of the component leads have the centreline of the lead as the reference line.

4.2 Coordinate system

The coordinate system common to tapes and taped components consists of an abscissa and

an ordinate, both using the centre of the sprocket hole that follows the component to be checked

as the reference point (see Figure 1).

To determine the position of components in the taped condition, the seating plane shall be used

for components with straight leads, and the reference plane for components with crimped (or

otherwise formed) leads (see Figure 2).

86 INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION
87 ____________
89 PACKAGING OF COMPONENTS FOR AUTOMATIC HANDLING –
91 Part 2: Tape packaging of components with
92 unidirectional leads on continuous tapes
95 FOREWORD

97 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising

98 all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international

99 co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and

100 in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,

101 Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their

102 preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with

103 may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising

104 with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for

105 Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.

106 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international

107 consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all

108 interested IEC National Committees.

109 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National

110 Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC

111 Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any

112 misinterpretation by any end user.

113 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications

114 transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between

115 any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.

116 5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity

117 assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any

118 services carried out by independent certification bodies.

119 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.

120 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and

121 members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or

122 other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and

123 expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC

124 Publications.

125 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is

126 indispensable for the correct application of this publication.

127 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject of patent

128 rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.

129 IEC 60286-2 has been prepared by IEC technical committee 40: Capacitors and resistors for

130 electronic equipment. It is an International Standard.

131 This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition, published in 2015 and constitutes a

132 technical revision.

133 This edition includes the following significant changes with respect to the previous edition:

134 a) Complete revision of structure;
135 b) Consolidation of essential parameters and requirements in Clause 4

155 Part 2: Tape packaging of components with
156 unidirectional leads on continuous tapes
157
158 1 Scope

159 This part of IEC 60286 applies to the tape packaging of components with two or more

160 unidirectional leads for use in electronic equipment. It provides dimensions and tolerances

161 necessary to tape components with unidirectional leads. In general, the tape is applied to the

162 component leads.

163 It covers requirements for taping techniques used with equipment for automatic handling, pre-

164 forming of leads, insertion and other operations and includes only those dimensions which are

165 essential to the taping of components intended for the above-mentioned purposes.

218 The symbols and dimensions are given in Figure 1 to Figure 6, Table 1, Annex A and Annex B.

219 All dimension referencing to the component leads are to the centreline of the lead.

220 4.2 Coordinate system

221 The coordinate system common to tapes and taped components consists of abscissa and

222 ordinate, both using the centre of the sprocket hole that follows the component to be checked

223 as reference point (see Figure 1).

224 To determine the position of components in taped condition, the seating plane shall be used for

225 components with straight leads, and the reference plane for components with crimped (or

0 1 2 0

253 The following describes the dimensions common to the taped component in relation to its

254 location in the tape and the mutual distance between components.
255 The grid is defined as lead spacing e = 2,5 mm.

256 Components with a lead spacing of F = 3 × e may be delivered with the sprocket holes arranged

257 between the leads of the component (see Figure 3, Sketch B).

258 Components with a lead spacing of F = 8 × e to 11 × e may be delivered with one or two sprocket

259 holes arranged between the leads of the component (see Figure 3, Sketch B and C).

260 Dimensions P, P , P , P , are given in Annex A and Annex B.
0 1 2

261 The cumulative sprocket hole pitch tolerance shall not exceed ±1 mm over 20 consecutive

262 pitches.
263 Dimension D is given in Table 1.
264 4.5 Specific requirements to leads
265 4.5.1 General

266 The leads of the taped components shall be free of kinks or bends from the seating plane or

267 reference plane downward to the carrier tape.

268 The leads of components shall be taped and handled so that lead spacing can easily be

269 maintained within tolerances after separation or removal from the tape.

270 Care shall be taken, that the leads do not interfere with the sprocket holes.

271 4.5.2 Lead diameter (d, d )

272 Diameter d and d of lead terminal should be selected in accordance with IEC 60301.

273 Market trend for automatic insertion, where lead spacing is F = 5 mm, the recommended lead

274 diameters are 0,6 mm maximum, and where lead spacing is F = 7,5 mm, the recommended lead

275 diameters are 0,8 mm maximum.

276 Lead diameters outside this range are commonly available but compatibility with high-speed

277 automatic insertion machines should be considered.

278 Leads with cross sections other than circular may be used. A circle going through the corners

279 of the non-circular cross-section is the equivalent circular cross-section.
280 4.5.3 Lead spacing (F, F , F )
1 2
281 Dimension F is given in multiples of 2,5 mm.

282 Dimensions F, F and F are measured at the egress from the carrier tape, on the component

1 2
283 side.

284 Tolerances of Dimension F, Dimension F1 and Dimension F2 are given in Table 1
