This document provides safety requirements specific to binding and finishing equipment and systems. It provides additional safety requirements for the design and construction of new equipment used to convert printed or blank substrates into cut, folded, collated, assembled, bound, or otherwise finished product.
This document is applicable to processes for preparing substrate for the printing process. It is also applicable to a wide range of equipment used in the binding and finishing process.

This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant to converting equipment and systems used in the corrugated board, package printing, converting and graphic technology industries (see Clause 5), when it is used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer.
This document is applicable to converting equipment not covered by other parts of ISO 12643.
This document is not applicable to the machinery or machinery components manufactured before the date of its publication.

This document provides safety specifications for the design and construction of new equipment used in prepress systems, printing press systems, binding and finishing systems, converting systems, corrugated board manufacturing systems and stand‑alone platen presses. It is applicable to equipment used in stand-alone mode, or in combination with other machines, including ancillary equipment, in which all the machine actuators (e.g. drives) of the equipment are controlled by the same control system.
The requirements given in this document are applicable to the equipment covered by ISO 12643 (all parts), unless otherwise noted. This document is intended to be used in conjunction with the applicable part of ISO 12643 that contains additional requirements specific to a particular type of equipment.
This document addresses recognized significant hazards specific to equipment and systems in the following areas:
—     mechanical;
—     electrical;
—     slipping, tripping, falling;
—     ergonomics;
—     noise;
—     UV and laser radiation;
—     fire and explosion;
—     thermal;
—     substances and material used for processing;
—     failure, malfunction of control system;
—     other types of emissions [e.g. ozone, ink mist, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), etc.].
This document is not applicable to:
—     equipment manufactured before the date of its publication;
—     ordinary office equipment for digital printing and paper processing, such as digital printers, copiers, sorters, binders and staplers, which is intended for use outside the printing and paper industry;
—     winder-slitters and sheeters in paper finishing (sheeters with unwinders);
—     office-type collating machines equipped with friction feeders;
—     mail processing machines;
—     machines used for filling packages (such as machines for shaping, filling, and closing the package); and
—     textile printing presses.
The safety principles established in this document can also be applicable to the design of equipment within areas of technology that are not specified in ISO 12643 (all parts).

This document provides safety requirements specific to prepress and press equipment and systems.
This document provides additional safety requirements for the design and construction of new prepress and press equipment, and the auxiliary equipment integrated into the press control system.
This document is not applicable to prepress and press equipment and systems manufactured before the date of its publication.

This part of ISO 12643 provides safety requirements specific to binding and finishing equipment and systems. This part of ISO 12643 shall be used in conjunction with ISO 12643-1. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the general requirements given in ISO 12643-1.
This part of ISO 12643 provides additional safety requirements for the design and construction of new equipment used to convert printed or blank substrates into cut, folded, collated, assembled, bound, or otherwise finished product. It can also be applicable to processes for preparing substrate for the printing process.
It is applicable to a wide range of equipment used in the binding and finishing process.

This standard provides safety requirements for the design and construction of converting equipment used in the package printing, converting and graphic technology industries. It is applicable to converting equipment not covered by other parts of EN ISO 12643. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the general requirements given in EN ISO 12643-1.

This standard provides safety requirements specific to prepress and press equipment and systems. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the general requirements given in EN ISO 12643-1.
This standard provides additional safety requirements for the design and construction of new prepress and press equipment, and the auxiliary equipment integrated into the press control system.

This standard provides safety specifications for the design and construction of new equipment used in prepress systems, printing press systems, binding and finishing systems and converting systems. It is applicable to equipment used in stand-alone mode, or in combination with other machines, including ancillary equipment, in which all the machine actuators (e.g. drives) of the equipment are controlled by the same control system.

This standard provides safety requirements for the design and construction of converting equipment used in the package printing, converting and graphic technology industries. This standard applies to machines for the production of corrugated board and the conversion of flat and corrugated board:
-   corrugated board production machines;
-   folder gluer machines;
-   printer slotters, rotary die cutters and combined machines (inline machines);
-   stand-alone platen presses, for single stroke mode, dwell mode and continuous operation mode, for cutting and creasing;
-   automatic flatbed punching machines;
-   tube winding machines.
This document shall be used together with EN 1010-1:2004+A1:2010. Both parts together identify all significant hazards relevant to machines for the production of corrugated board and the conversion of flat and corrugated board when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see clause 4). The specific requirements in EN 1010-5 take precedence over respective requirements in EN 1010-1:2004+A1:2010.
This document does not deal with risks generated by noise emitted from the machines. These issues are fundamentally covered in EN 1010-1:2004+A1:2010. However, this document specifies requirements for noise reduction of corrugated board and flatbed punching machines.
This document is not applicable to machines for the production of corrugated board and machines for the conversion of flat and corrugated board which are manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.

1.1   This document applies to:
-   printing machines for printing on paper and similar materials, including screen printing presses; equipment used in the preparation of the printing process and additional equipment on printing machines are also considered to be printing machines. This standard also covers machinery used for the handling of paper, products, printing formes and inks (before and after the printing process) as well as machinery for cleaning printing formes and checking the print quality (auxiliary printing machinery).
-   paper converting machines, i. e. machines to process, convert or finish paper, board and similar materials which are processed, converted or finished in a similar manner.
NOTE   Similar substrates are, for example, board, corrugated board, plastic film, aluminium foil, sheet metal and photographic paper.

-   Auxiliary devices:
-   cylinder and roller washing devices;
-   continuous flow drying devices;
-   powder spraying devices;
-   auxiliary devices on inking and damping units;
-   automatic plate clamping devices;
-   washing equipment for printing forms, rollers and scrapers;
-   pile turners;
-   measuring and control devices.
This document shall be used together with !EN 1010-1:2004+A1". Both parts together identify all significant hazards relevant to printing and varnishing machines including pre-press machinery and auxiliary devices, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see clause 4). The specific requirements specified in prEN 1010-2 take precedence over respecti¬ve requirements in this standard.
This document does not deal with risks generated by noise emitted from the machines. These issues are fundamentally covered in EN 1010-1:2004+A1.
This document does not apply to high-pressure cleaning devices and screen printing presses for textile substrates.
This document is not applicable to printing and varnishing machines including pre-press machinery which are manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.

1.1   This European Standard applies to cutting machines used in paper converting:
-   guillotines;
-    three-knife trimmers;
-    index cutting machines;
-   trimmers;
-   rotary cutters;
-   round cornering machines;
-   label punching machines.
This European Standard is only applicable in conjunction with !EN 1010-1:2004+A1". Both parts together identify all significant hazards relevant to the cutting machines when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). The specific requirements of this European Standard take precedence over respective requirements of !EN 1010-1:2004+A1".
This European Standard is not applicable to cutting machines manufactured before the publication of this European Standard by CEN.
1.2   This standard does not apply to winder-slitters or sheeters (see EN 1034-1, EN 1034-3, prEN 1034-5).

Both parts together identify all significant hazards relevant to bookbinding, paper converting and paper finishing machines when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see clause 4). The specific requirements in EN 1010 4 take precedence over respective requirements in EN 1010-1:2004+A1.
This document does not deal with risks generated by noise emitted from the machines. These issues are covered basically in EN 1010-1:2004+A1. However, for machines like sheet folding machines and machines for the production of envelopes and sanitary items, some specific proposals for noise reduction measures are given.
This document is not applicable to bookbinding, paper converting and finishing machines manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.

This standard applies to machines for the production of corrugated board and the conversion of flat and
corrugated board:
. corrugated board production machines;
. folder gluer machines;
. printer slotters, rotary die cutters and combined machines (inline machines);

1.1 This document applies to
.printing machines for printing on paper and similar materials, including screen printing presses;
equipment used in the preparation of the printing process and additional equipment on printing machines
are also considered to be printing machines. This standard also covers machinery used for the handling
of paper, products, printing formes and inks (before and after the printing process) as well as machinery
for cleaning printing formes and checking the print quality (auxiliary printing machinery).
.paper converting machines, i. e. machines to process, convert or finish paper, board and similar materials
which are processed, converted or finished in a similar manner.
NOTE Similar substrates are, for example, board, corrugated board, plastic film, aluminium foil, sheet metal and

1.2 This document deals with all common significant hazards relevant to printing and paper converting
machinery when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see
clause 4). This part of the standard defines the common safety requirements for all kinds of printing and paper
converting machines and related common devices and shall be used in connection with another part of the
EN 1010 series. The specific requirements specified in Part 2 and following parts of EN 1010 take precedence
over the respective requirements in EN 1010-1.
NOTE In addition, where a machine is not covered by a specific part of this standard, Part 1 of EN 1010 may be used
to establish the approach for dealing with the relevant risks.
