ISO/TC 22/SC 34/WG 1 - Fuel filters
Filtres à combustibles
General Information
This document specifies requirements relating to the testing method for AUS 32/diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) filters for the removal of suspended matter. This applies to urea filters dedicated to passenger vehicles as well as to commercial vehicles. This method applies to filters with flow rates from 3 l/h to 30 l/h depending on the application (by default 5 l/h for passenger vehicles and 25 l/h for commercial vehicles). This method can be used for other flow rates, provided the validation requirement can be met.

This document specifies a multi-pass filtration test, with continuous contaminant injection and using the on line particle counting method, to evaluate the performance of diesel fuel and petrol filters for internal combustion engines submitted to a constant flow rate of test liquid. The test procedure determines the contaminant capacity of a filter, its particulate removal characteristics and differential pressure. This document is applicable to filter elements having a rated flow between 50 l/h and 800 l/h; however, by agreement between the filter manufacturer and customer, and with some modifications, the procedure is permitted for application to fuel filters with higher flow rates.

ISO 16332:2018 specifies a fuel/water separator comparison test under defined and simplified laboratory conditions. This test is intended for pressure side fuel/water separators as well as for suction side fuel/water separators. Pressure side fuel/water separators are tested with fine droplets and suction side filters are tested with coarse droplets using the same test rig layout. The rated flow (in litres per hour) is intended for the range between 50 l/h and 1 500 l/h. By agreement between customer and fuel/water separator manufacturer, and with some modifications, the procedures can be used for fuel/water separators with higher or lower flow rates.

ISO 4020 specifies the types of test for fuel filters in accordance with their application. It applies to fuel filters provided for road vehicles with diesel engines and for test installations for fuel injection equipment and is intended for filters having a rated flow of up to 200 l .h-1. By agreement, the tests, with some modifications, may be used for filters with higher rates of flow. The test described may be used for fuel filters located either on the pressure side or on the suction side of the fuel supply pump.

ISO/TS 16332:2006 specifies a fuel/water separation test with continuous water injection, using an offline water concentration measuring method, for evaluating the ability of a fuel filter to separate either finely or coarsely dispersed undissolved water out of fuel. This test is intended for application to filter elements which are installed upstream or downstream of the low pressure pump, having a rated flow between 50 l/h and 900 l/h. By agreement between customer and filter manufacturer, and with some modification, the procedure may be used for fuel filters with higher flow rates.
