Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-9: Particular requirements for grills, toasters and similar portable cooking appliances

This European Standard deals with the safety of electric portable appliances that have a cooking function, such as baking, roasting and grilling. Examples are barbecues for indoor use, contact grills, hotplates, food dehydrators, raclette grills, toasters and waffle irons.

COMMON MODIFICATIONS
1 Modification to the Scope
Replace the 4th paragraph by the following :

As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are

encountered by all persons in household and similar environments.
However, in general, it does not take into account:
- children playing with the appliance;
- the use of the appliance by very young children;
- the use of the appliance by young children without supervision.

It is recognized that very vulnerable people may have needs beyond the level addressed in this

European Standard.
2 Modification to clause 11, "Heating"
11.8 Modification
In Table 102 change footnote b as follows:

b When the required values are not met, the maximum temperature rise shall not be higher than

two times the values indicated, as defined for specific appliances.
11.101 Addition:
Add the following sentence to the third dashed item of the third paragraph:

The area surrounding the ventilation openings including the ventilation openings themselves which

is exempt from measurement cannot be more than 20 % of the total external surface of the

appliance touchable by test probe B of IEC 61032 minus the following:
• external hot functional surface,
• handles, knobs, controls and similar

• areas other than ventilation openings for which temperature rise is not measured

Note: Measuring starts with the highest part of the top surface
Add the following new paragraph:
For Toasters, the footnote b is only applicable for:
- Area between 25mm and 50 mm below the top surface of top loaded appliances
- Area around the outline of the hot functional surface between 25mm and 50 mm
- Areas between 25 mm and 50 mm above of ventilation openings
