International regulation of technical equipment

Globalization processes in the world force businesses to learn how to quickly adapt to change. If we analyze global trends, we will see the need to switch to automated production for those companies that want to be leaders in their market. Automation of production allows companies to increase the volume of manufactured products. Despite this, one should not rely entirely on the operation of machines, as they still require a certain level of human regulation. Along with the expansion of production, the risk that the quality of goods may suffer increases. All production processes must be subject to strict control, in accordance with international standards, which in turn are regularly updated to meet modern trends. In order to be at the forefront of their industry and be competitive, companies must carefully control all production processes, as well as ensure that they comply with international standards. Separate regulation requires technical equipment, as it is the basis of production. We have prepared for you an article in which we have collected several international standards that will help you ensure the quality control of your products, as a result of automation and expansion of production.

Surface active agents - Bio-based surfactants - Requirements and test methods

EN 17035:2021

Chemical companies sometimes use bio-based surfactants in their products. Therefore, it is necessary to subject these chemicals to a thorough study, namely to check the level of their effectiveness. Despite the fact that these ingredients can be widely used in production, it is important to regularly monitor their safety, both for the human body and for the environment. All testing requirements for surfactants are governed by an international standard such as EN 17035:2021.

This document sets requirements for bio-based surfactants in terms of properties, limits, application classes and test methods. It lays down the characteristics and details for assessment of bio-based surfactants as to whether they:

- are fit for purpose in terms of performance related properties;

- comply with the requirements regarding the health, safety and environment which apply to general surfactants;

- are derived from a certain minimum percentage of biomass;

- comply with at least similar sustainability criteria as comparable (non-bio-based) surfactants.
The criteria of the regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) [13] also apply to bio-based surfactants.

EN 16575 defines the term "bio-based" as derived from biomass and clarifies that "bio-based" does not imply "biodegradable". In addition, "biodegradable" does not necessarily imply the use of "bio-based" material.

Given the information that is provided in this International Standard, it becomes apparent how important it is to pay sufficient attention to the evaluation of the effectiveness of biobased surfactants used in production. Despite the biological origin of these substances, this does not guarantee their biodegradability, which is also worth considering. If your company uses this element in its production, you can read the full text of the standard on our website using the link attached below.

Gas cylinders - High pressure cylinders for the on-board storage of natural gas as a fuel for automotive vehicles - Amendment 1 (ISO 11439:2013/Amd 1:2021)

EN ISO 11439:2013/A1:2021

The automotive industry is rapidly developing, so new inventions are constantly being developed. Based on this, it becomes obvious that new technologies need additional regulation by international standards. Given the fact that most companies declare their environmental and social responsibility, much attention is paid to the use of gas motor fuel. One of the international standards that governs the requirements for high pressure gas cylinders is EN ISO 11439:2013/A1:2021.

2019-02-18: WI changed from revision to Amendment further to same change at ISO

It is worth noting that the International Standard described above is an updated version of its predecessor. In order to understand what exactly the changes are and how they can affect your business, you can seek advice from our specialists.

LPG equipment and accessories - Automotive LPG filling system for light and heavy duty vehicles - Nozzle, test requirements and dimensions

EN 13760:2021

Vehicles that are designed to carry passengers or goods are increasingly starting to use gas motor fuel, based on various socio-economic reasons. Therefore, companies that manufacture machines must take this fact into account in their work. The need to redesign the fuel system of a car so that it can function properly on liquefied petroleum gas is forcing companies to regulate their work with new international standards, such as EN 13760:2021.

This document specifies the minimum design, construction, test requirements and the critical dimensions for filling nozzles for the dispensing of automotive Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to vehicles of categories M and N, as defined in Regulation (EU) 2018/858 [2], that are fitted with the Euro filling unit (light duty or heavy duty).

A feature of this international standard is that it regulates the requirements for filling elements for vehicles of categories M and H. The information that is collected in it will help companies produce quality automotive parts in accordance with European Union standards. If you need more detailed information on this standard, our specialists are always ready to help you.

Cast iron pipe systems and their components for the evacuation of water from works - characteristics and test methods

EN 877:2021

The water supply system is a very important component of internal communications in any premises, both residential, office and industrial. Since these systems provide the vital activity of the premises with such an important resource as water, it is worth paying attention to the quality characteristics of the constituent elements of these systems. One of the important components of the plumbing are elements for water drainage, and one of the most common materials for their manufacture is cast iron. What technical properties should cast iron pipes have in order to ensure proper water circulation is described in the international standard EN 877:2021.

This document specifies product characteristics, test/assessment methods and how to express test/assessment results. Cast iron pipelines kits are usually composed of cast iron pipes, fittings, joints and accessories.

This document covers the range of nominal diameter from DN 40 to DN 600 inclusive.
The cast iron includes grey cast iron and ductile cast iron.

The roof gullies used for siphonic systems are outside the scope of this document.
Sewerage applications are outside the scope of this document.
It is intended to be used for the construction of gravity or vacuum discharge pressurized or unpressurised networks installed inside and/or outside works, above and/or below ground and in construction works.

Companies that manufacture cast iron pipes for water drainage systems must take into account many technical nuances in their production. During operation, these elements of plumbing systems can be subjected to high water pressure, and can also accumulate plaque, which can spoil their condition. In order to avoid these negative aspects, it is necessary to test the pipes in accordance with international standards. The need to control automated production

At this stage in the development of the world economy, we are in the information age, when attention is increasingly focused on the service sector. In parallel with this, production processes are becoming more and more automated, and include less and less human participation. For production, this situation carries certain risks and obligations. As the human factor becomes less and less significant, all production processes must be subject to strict regulation. Based on this need, international standards are created that help to monitor the quality and safety of products. International standards, in turn, are also regularly tested and updated, in accordance with the current needs of the market, this gives them the opportunity to comply with modern trends. Therefore, it is very important for manufacturing companies not only to implement the requirements of international standards in their activities once, but also to constantly monitor their updates in order to be able to quickly respond to new market needs. Now in the industry, competitiveness is assessed mainly by the criterion of business adaptability, since we are all now working in a time of partial uncertainty.
