ISO/TC 218/WG 3 - Sawn and processed timber

ISO 8903:2016 specifies nominal sizes of unplanned, square-edged and unedged, sawn timber.

ISO 738:2015 specifies permissible deviations, due to inaccuracies in sawing, from nominal thicknesses, widths and lengths, for coniferous sawn timber. It also gives, for information, average values for shrinkage for some wood species. It is applicable to unplanned square-edged and unedged coniferous sawn timber having thicknesses or widths in the range10 mm to 310 mm.

Specifies the methods of measurement of the length, width, thickness and volume of sawn timber. Applies to unplaned, square-edged and unedged sawn timber

Specifies requirements for square-edged and unedged, planed and unplaned sawn timber. Appropriate definitions are given and illustrated in the figure. Dimensions and mass are listed in a table.

Two methods are specified: a) Measuring the electrical resistance or conductance of the test pieces using an electrical moisture meter and b) determining the loss in mass after drying test pieces until absolutely dry.

Reviewed ISO Recommendation R 737. Covers unplaned square-edged und unedged sawn timber and defines how to measure thickness, width, length and volume. Terms and definitions are given in ISO 1032.

Relates to deviations from nominal thicknesses, widths and lengths due to inaccuracies in sawing. Is applicable to unplaned square-edged and unedged sawn timber having thicknesses or widths in the range of 10 mm to 310 mm. Average values for shrinkage for some wood species are given in annexes A and B.

Represents the combinatin of ISO/DIS 3179, 3181, and 3182 in a single document. Applies to unplaned square-edged and unedged shaped sawn timber 16 to 300 mm thick of different widths and differend shaped edges. The nominal thicknesses and widths are given in a table.
